How much does a pallet of sod cost, and how much to lay it?

I have about 3000 SF of yard that needs sodding. I've already recruited some hands to lay it, just wondering what would it cost to have it done rather than doing it myself. It will be centipede, how much is that a pallet, and where would I get this from in BR?
Also, the area where it is to be laid has grown in nice and thick with crap grass and weeds. Do I roundup this stuff and let it die before laying, or will putting the sod on top kill all of it anyway?

I think I've read that a pallet will cover 400-450 sq/ft. There's a place in Natchitoches (sp) that will deliver anywhere. $117 per pallet if u buy 10 pallets

would be best to not only round up everything but then lightly till and grade surface
Quality sod in Baton Rouge has done very well for me in the past

What Tigerpaw said. Any treatment you can do now will save you alot of headache in the future. Also water the shiz out of it every 3-4 days once its down.

What about grass seed. I've got about 6 acres to plant and I'm not paying to sob all that.

None of our feed stores locally carry anything other than rye grass or seed for food plots

I have gotten Centiped sod from Woerner Turf and Landscape on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. Woerner is about a mile south of Siegen lane on the West side of Airline. I purchased a pallet last September and I think that it was around $130.00. The other advice about killing all weeds first with Round Up is good advice.

Fwiw 4 yrs ago when I did my yard I bought grade three centipede for 80$ from simpson sod in covington, I also picked it up and laid it myself. I did 8 pallets and it almost killed me and my helper. Grade 3 has weeds and dead spots but after a cpl summers of weed n feed it will be good to go.

Centipede is already laid in the front yard and immediately around the house. I wanted to seed but the Mrs wants to lay sod.

450 SF to a pallet(usually) and you can get it installed for $135 a pallet in BR

I just laid 8 pallets of Bermuda here in south Georgia by myself in my backyard around our new pool. Do yourself a favor and pay someone to lay it. That shite about killed me. But at least my backyard is not a mudhole now. Should be nice when it warms up.

I assume that's an additional $135/pallet for the labor, making it around +/- $260/pallet total?

On the matter of paying someone to do it. I would say depends on how tight your budget is and how many helpers you can recruit.
If you have a large group of family/friends that can be enlisted it wouldn't be too bad. Just make sure to provide plenty of food and drink.

They'll be plenty of beer and water there, and well order whatever the group wants to eat. If the cost if having it done was minor in relation to the grand total, then I'd just pay someone.
