Aren’t you already paying him?

I give a little extra if he cleans the fish, for that. But not a lot 50-75 maybe. Mainly bc its his boat and I paid him agreed on price already.

Offshore is different I usually tip 20 percent there for the deckhand.

$100 is generous, I have always heard that you don't tip someone who owns the business, I would still throw him a few bones but not excessive, unless he really goes above and beyond, you bring kids/elderly or someone who needs lots of help, and I would talk to him about that ahead of time

Depends on his equipment, effort and attitude. $100.00 would be good for all A's

No problem with a $100 tip for a guide that worked hard and cleaned fish. But isn't $750 a bit steep for an inshore trip?

If he has a deckhand 20% is customary. They usually get the whole tip and that's it. If it's a 1 man gig and he cleans and shows a good time the 100 is good

I would think the tip is determined I little by how the day turns out. If you pay $750 and get skunked and there's no effort to find fish.... then the guide can kick rocks.

But catch fish, have a blast and he's working like your his first client... then I'd drop a croaker.

This! Never understood why the price of the fishing trip doesn't cover the price of the fishing trip???

800$ if he cleans the fish and y’all had a good time. Nothing over 750$ for no fish cleaning.

Hell yes it is. Must be Venice or somewhere. Seems to be the going rate down that way.

Went tuna fishing out of Venice with a crabby captain a few years back. Travis from Voodoo crew was our deckhand that day and did all of the work. Literally told the old grump where to go and what to use and put us on the yellowfin. Paid the captain the agreed upon cost for boat and fuel and gave Travis a nice tip.

To the OP, I recommend what others have said about how your captain goes about things. Pretty pricey, but if he treats you right and puts you on the fish, $100 is more than enough because he already made money that day.

Is your captain a primary or secondary for the trip? Primary captain I would do $20/man and secondary $100. I fish backup on most trips but most people think I get the whole Nut which I don’t. Break a couple rods and I am in the hole, lose $20 worth of corks same deal.
$750/inshore per day is making bank as close as they fish.

I am assuming there won't be a deckhand. It's a fairly popular guide service and there are 4 boats in the fleet. Not sure if I will get the proprietor of the business or one of the secondary captains.

Secondary captain probably gets $500-$550 of the $750 but that's just a guess.

I would not pay that much for inshore unless it included lodging or something else? I've usually paid $450 to $600 never more. Big Lake, Sabine , Dularge.

Then 10% tip is all they expect for a good trip.

Either I was a shitty deckhand or you guys are just high rollers, but a 20% tip on an offshore trip is quite a lot. With a typical offshore trip being around $2500 a $500 tip is pretty steep IMO

The handful of times I deckhanded I would receive anywhere from $150 to $250 depending on how good the trip was.

$150 is a joke for the work you put in to make their trip successful considering that's all you work for. My friday trip gave me $0 but told the guy that booked it they took care of their captain.
