Huge Victor dog and cat food recall

I am cross posting this from tOT because I know a lot of people here feed Victor and Hi-Pro Plus is on the list. The issue is Salmanella

I got the email from Chewy earlier and sent my request for refund for 4 bags. We just got our 2 months supply this week so I have 200 pounds of food to throw away. y for I love Chewy for how easy they are making it to deal with.

Feed store told me they didn’t have any more info other than toss it, but keep the bag if they do a refund.
My dog has been eating out of this bag for almost 3 weeks…should I really be concerned? That’s the issue.

I have no idea. Mine have been eating bags I bought ~2 months ago for about 6 weeks. I threw the bags away so I can't verify the dates but I know that Hi-Pro Plus is on the list. I will be interested to see if Chewy refunds me for those, if they do then they were in the recall. I ate the 3 jars of Jif peanut butter that were recalled so I apparently didn't worry about myself but since dogs can't talk I wouldn't feed these new bags even if I didn't get a refund.

Had a guy in raceland call the store talking about his dog was shitting blood and not eating. Mine doesn’t keep still and is pooping fine. As a matter of fact, she’s so herself, I found a folding chair torn apart and spread out all across my back yard this morning

I have a bag with that same number, with more ordered. Thought it would have been here by now but maybe they stopped the order. My pup has been eating out of this bag for over a month now, with no visible effects. Just had her last round of vaccinations Friday and she checked out okay. Won’t be using anymore of it, though.

We feed it and feed the beed and the hi-pro, I think we are going to just keep on keeping on, these dogs eat all kinds of funk in the woods, I can't imagine there is anything in the food that would hurt them.

Your welcome, if I still bought from the feed store I would have had no idea unless I stumbled onto it. I cross-posted here because I figured a lot more ODB denizens would be aware of Victor and feed it. Some of the people on tOT acted like I had three heads because they had never heard of Victor but it was the wrong time to tell them how good it is compared to most other dry kibble.

Unfortunate timing. I filled up my dogs food container yesterday and threw away the bag of Hi Pro Plus at the camp shes been eating the last month or 2. Haven't seen any ill effects so will probably keep on feeding.
Went to the store that carrys it yesterday to pick up another bag and they were out, now I'm wondering if they had to send back everything.

It should be off the shelves everywhere now. With regard to that given I have no idea how long before Victor will be available again I did a little looking to find a comparable food to Hi-Pro Plus. I spent some time on dogfoodadvisor.com where they evaluate 1,000s of foods and Hi-Pro Plus is a 5 star highly rated food. I think the best comparable with a good price and also available at the many of the same local feed stores and Tractor Supply is Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete.
Based on this I am going to try it as my interim food and as long as they pack likes it and does well on it I may just keep feeding it because it is slightly cheaper. I normally wouldn't change foods but it looks like I won't have a choice at least for my next purchase.

The interesting part is this all came about because there were 7 human cases that were linked back to the dog food.
6 of those 7 were in children under 1 year.
I read somewhere the dog can become infected or be a carrier and transmit it to humans which I’m guesssing is how the kids got it

My experience with this:
I subscribe and save/ auto-order with Amazon.
My Lab is half way through a 40# bag of this currently.
I have an unopened 40# also.
Called Amazon and with zero issues they refunded the unopened bag. I will continue to feed the open bag and wash my hands more often I guess.
The unopened bag will be hog/duck food at the camp.
I too find it odd that only 6-7 people can be traced to this. No rash of dead pets???? IDK.

We have an Amazon deal as well. Next delivery was scheduled for today. They notified us the order was cancelled and they refunded the bag for last month (I believe)

fed last scoops to my dogs yesterday morning. Went by feed store, NOTHING Victor in the store. Guy gave me the same Salmanella shpill.
because the best by date was 10/31 I assumed they would have some newer supply in stock. NONE. Fella said he used to work for a pet food manufacturer and has never seen a recall as widespread as this. Also says he thinks it will be "a while" before you see Victor back on shelves.
coincidentally, he was telling me about a new food coming out soon, from 2 guys who started Victor that is "nearly identical".
