In the False River canals. If you want to take a kid fishing, now is the time. No need for a boat, I’ve been catching them with frozen shrimp tails on the bottom under the bridge by Bergeron’s campground, the bridge on Woodview Lane and the hwy 983 bridge over Chenal canal. With all the recent rain, the canals have a strong current and it has the stripers feeding upstream in a frenzy. So if you can deal with the off and on rain, you can catch some fish. Good luck this weekend to all.

Man that sounds fun. We used to troll for them behind a party barge in about 16 foot of water by the old light house.
I heard they lost a bunch of fish when they opened the locks for flooding.
I guess they restocked.
We had a camp in the bow across from the yacht club. They would hit top water some evenings.

That's surprising, I've always wondered where those hybrids went from May to September. I ust assumed they stayed Out way deep when the water warmed up and that's why they were MIA

No problem. I’ve done caught and released 3 off the Woodview Lane bridge so far this morning. Trying to get as much action in as I can before I get rained out.

I fish for stripers on Lake Texoma several times a week.

This summer has been off on Texoma. There are more stripers in Texoma than any other freshwater fishery in the country. 10 man limit. I'm friends with a few guides and they're working hard to get close to limits, when most times, it's a near certainty.

Last year I'd limit a 3 man in an hour. This year, hit and miss. The guides have even resorted to trolling sassy shads or A rigs to locate fish.

I'm going to go out tomorrow, try to find some topwater action on a pencil popper then try vertical jigging slab spoons. That or live shad is usually the ticket in the summer mornings.

ETA--usually the guides (even the live bait guyides) hate on people trolling umbrella rigs, but they're having to do it about half the time this summer. I have a few sets of Captain Mack's 9 bait umbrella rigs and they catch fish. Plenty of doubles on an umbrella rig. But to me that's not fishing, that's just cruising around while occasionally reeling fish into the boat.

This actually sounds fun. Never caught the Hybrid bass before. I may actually try that this weekend. What kind of equipment do you need for these? Just basically the same equipment for largemouth bass?

Also these good eating? I need to make some runs and get some fish fillets in the freezer, with football season approaching.

You have stripers/striped bass, then white bass/sand bass and then hybrid/wipers. The hybrids are stripers and white bass hence the name wipers. They fight hard for their size.

If you clean all the red out, then it's one of the best freshwater fish you can eat in my opinion. I clean a LOT of stripers all year long. There's a trick you can do where you grab the filet and pinch the red at the tail end. Then you can rip out 90% of the red just with your fingers.

My wife has it down perfectly.

I plan on catching quite a few stripers between now and Saturday. I'll take some pics of my wife pulling the red off the filet with her fingers. One of my guide friends showed me the trick a few years ago and it makes cleaning the filets much easier.

Also, some of the best catfish bait is striper rib cages along with the red meat on the hook. Blues can't resist it.

All you need is a bag of frozen shrimp tails out the grocery store, a weight and hook for these canals off False River. I was using a spinning reel with 8 lb test, a 1 oz egg sinker, swivel, #2 gold hook with a shrimp tail about 18” below the swivel. Drop it to the bottom of the bridge and let the shrimp flow in the current and wait for the hard strike. I caught and released 8 this morning until something ran off with the tackle (choupique, I presume). I didn’t try artificial but white or chrome lures may work?

i've been talking about going to troll for striped bass in False River during the summer. for those that troll for them and willing to help a newbie out, what type of baits/methods are you using?

Sounds easy enough. Gonna try that out this weekend then. Have never ventured out much in that area. Will prolly try to catch other fish too and just explore the area. Bring some different options with me.

Captain Mack's umbrella rigs. Get the largest one with either 7 or 9 wires. Holds a bunch of swim jigs. Also order the umbrella rig keeper/retriever thing. It helps retrieving the rigs if you get snagged up. Their line depth chart is pretty accurate, but I'd troll with 65 lbs braid or lead core if you need to go deeperr or downriggers. You really shouldn't need to go deeper though.

Troll at idle speed, my boat has a setting for trolling where you can adjust your rpms. With those Captain Mack's, if you go through a school, you'll catch some doubles on the rig.

I haven't used my Captain Mack's rigs in a few years, but they catch fish. No doubt about that.

I just looked at the website. Get the 4 arm, 3 oz with 9 jigs. 40 bucks apiece. And whatever you do, don't use a net even if it's a double or triple. Those 9 jigs will make a mess Ina net.

In the next day or two, I'll catch a bunch of stripers and I'll post a few pics on how to pinch and pull the red out. If cleaned properly, it's damn near as good as crappie and bigger filets. When I have fish frys, the catfish barely gets touched because people are shocked at how much they prefer the striper.

It's been a struggle on Lake Texoma so far. I've caught 7 but I've been having to search the whole lake. I'm trying a cove right now right out from of Blake Shelton's and Russell Westbrook's houses.
