I don’t understand how Kurt Cobain’s Model 11 doesn’t have a magazine cap

IMO, the Cobain shotgun was probably manufactured around 1943-1944 after WWII. Since we know the SN 1088925, Remington will provide the date of manufacture. The 20 ga. Model 11 was released in 1931 and discontinued in 1947. Cutts compensators were introduced in 1926 and became real popular pre and post WWII. If you look closely at the 3 pics below, you will see how small, and recessed the magazine recoil cap is. Aftermarket recoil pads were also very popular since the entire barrel comes back and will beat your shoulder to death.

That is great information. I wasn’t considering it is a Sportsman 20 gauge

Courtney Love removed the cap before she shot him.

The crime scene photos suggest his right hand was used to pull the trigger and his left hand was still gripping the barrel. Curt was left handed. Would he have used his right hand to pull the trigger? With the way the barrel recoils on these shotguns, would his hand still be able to hold the barrel when fired? I really don’t know the answer to either question.

I’m left handed but have never shot left handed, or played golf etc. left handed. But I eat write and shoot pool left handed, there’s all types of left handedness

There are several other pics of Cobain posing with guns with his right hand/finger in the trigger guard (see below). I seriously doubt Cobain thought about which hand to use, or how to pull the trigger moments before he committed suicide. The dude had very high levels of heroin and valium in his system as all he cared about was ending his life.
This disturbing and ironic picture is actually a Crossman BB gun without the magazine attached. Regardless, I believe Cobain was foreshadowing his death as he never wanted to get sober or healthy. He chose suicide knowing he would be more famous dead than alive.

Update after doing some reading, Cobain was right handed not left handed, he only played guitar left handed.
