Ideas needed:hanging ceiling fan from I beam?

So I want to hang some ceiling fans in a metal building. The structure is large I beams and I'm wondering if anyone has hung fans from these before. I was thinking either strut clamps with uni strut or a sandwich braket using strut, but would like to not spend a fortune on mounting hardware. Tia

Several manufacturers sell clamps for wide flange beams. Are you planning on using an electrical box?

Yes. I have 110 outlets wired there already and had intended to put them on pig tails and run seperate wire down the wall for a control switch.

Do you plan on centering the fan on the beam? I'll take a look at some of my catalogs tomorrow.

yes it's done all the time and yes many manufacturers make mounts specifically for that purpose. Five minutes on the Google-ator should suffice

strut clamps with uni strut
In the electrical industry we call these window clamps and they they would work fine. Spring nut your brackets to the unistrut and you should be good to go.

Cheapest? #12 teks will tap into 1/2" thickness of steel.

Perfectly fine solution. Also, there is no issue with drilling holes in the flange of the beam, so you could just drill holes and use bolts and nuts with lock washers.
