no real need for a boat unless the water comes up real high. Piroque is best! There is two sides, East and West side. Both u can drive to a designated parking and walk from there, not as busy as Sherburne, i have hunted both but I am not giving up my HONEYHOLE.

Well technically yes... A 17' bass tracker with a 70 mercury.... Not an ideal duck boat... I normally hunt flooded timber with buddies of mine in NLA... Decided to try and find something closer to BR this year..

When you say walk, do you mean wade? Does it follow all the same procedures as Sherburne and other WMA's; such as self clearing permits and other various restrictions?

It is not a WMA, it is owned by the Corps. You can find info on their website, you have to carry a signed piece of paper, different from a WMA...

I had hunted it a couple times in the pass. I really didn't care to much for it. And yes, i hunted by boat.

BUMP:
I plan on going to scout the area Wednesday....
I will not have a boat or a 4 wheeler for this upcoming duck season. My wife and I are in the process of building a house, and apparently a chandelier is more important than a 4 wheeler at the moment.
So since all my hunting will be on foot, is there a particular area where I can drive, park, and walk a reasonable distance to get to some duck holes? Exact locations are not needed, just general area.

Most duck hunt there by boat and it is elbow to elbow when word gets out hunting is good. If your looking to hunt by atv / foot it's usually late season when water is high enough to flood front fields, again be early. Check dates it's different from the rest of the east zone, I think no hunting during rifle deer season but could be wrong.

If you are looking to hunt by foot go check out lake Martin, I have done good there in the past for wood duck. It's a early flight and it's done quick so don't have many oppurnities if you miss a lot

The Lake Martin North of St. Amant?
How would you get back there without a boat?
