Coleman 6250

Link is just for picture reference.

It has a 20amp outlet. I thought you needed a 30amp outlet to run larger appliances and window units.

It's fine but I'd fet something with a 30 amp plug.

You can run window units and appliances from the 20 amp if you are running something under 20 amps. Most window units you would plug into this are 120v and under 20 amps.

I would go for something else.

You'll have to tell us what you are wanting to run.

This would handle some fans, tv, fridge, and window unit depending on size.

For comparison 2 fridges, tv, lights, fans, 5k btu and 8k btu AC pull 18 amps continuous and 25 surge.

It was given to me this past weekend from a friend of the family. She didn't know anything about it other than her husband used it to power his shop.

Tv, fridge, and a small window unit

I saw that I can get an adapter for it to fit my 30amp generator cord.

I have one. It’s been a good machine. Got it after Katrina. I have run it every power outage since then.
Powered Two refrigerators, two window units, fans and a tv at once.
Mines getting a little old now. I will probably replace it soon.

Nice!
How do you have yours wired to run all of that? Generator cord to a power inlet box?

Baw. I ran my Coleman 6250 all weekend. It powered 2 window units, a fridge and all the LED lights at the camp. It’s also 20 years old.

Same exact scenario for mine. I do run it several times a year and obviously no ethanol goes in it.

It'll handle this fine.

Just get a couple seperate cords and make sure you don't put it near your home or under an eave where carbon monoxide can build up and get into the house.

I've got a 25ft generator cord run to a 30amp power inlet box.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

If you are set up with a 30 amp box to your house and a 30 amp cord, find a generator that produces as close to 30 amps as you can find.

Hope this helps. I've had the identical generator since 2005 that I link to the house with a 25' cord to a 30 amp inlet box.

Coleman Powermate usually has a Briggs and Stratton engine. Look at the Valve cover on the engine for the Model #, Engine #, and Code #. The Code # will tell you the year the engine was manufactured. If it's older than overhead valve engines there will be a plate attached to the engine with the same info.

CODE: 10031858 The code is the manufacturing date and is read as follows:

10 - YEAR
03 - MONTH
18 - DAY
58 - ASSEMBLY LINE AND MANUFACTURING PLANT

Mine has a Subaru-Robin 11hp that I run off natural gas with a kit. Runs like a top. Bought it on my way back into town after Katrina.

Bought mine in 2005 as well. Used it many times at home and at the camp. Then I parked it and forgot about it for about 10 years. I needed it in the field one day so I put some gas in it and it started on second pull - ran like a champ. I’ve since retired it to spare status.

No ethanol, change oil after heavy use. Run it dry when you put it to bed. It will be there for you when you need it.
