Issues with Ford Sync

I have a 2018 Ford F-150 and it looks like my sync is going out. It constantly loses connection with my Bluetooth and my whole radio display will either freeze up or be very slow to respond to touch screen demands. Has anyone dealt with this? My truck is out of warranty and I’m trying to see about what this will cost to fix since the dealership is being a pain to deal with. I have to drop my truck off with them to evaluate but I need my truck for work. TIA

If the dealership won’t help contact Ford corporate and tell them. They’ll likely help cover some of the cost. They should. That is ridiculous for it to go out that quick.

They will tell you you are behind on system updates, blah blah and tell you to leave vehicle for a day so they can update system.
From what I've heard, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Happened to my dad recently, it was one of the computer boards for him. He was able to get it replaced via warranty and works fine now, no clue what it would have cost if he had to pay out of pocket.

I have a 2018 Ford F-150 and mine has recently lost a reliable connection via Bluetooth. It will not connect, or break connection, etc. while I'm trying to use it. I just run it through a cord now via CarPlay.
My wife has a 2021 GMC Yukon XL and that wireless CarPlay is sweet.

When mine acts up, I do a reset by pressing the Volune/on-off and Seek forward button at same time until the radio resets (5-10 secs).
This works most of the time. Also make sure all updates have processed.

I never knew this. I'll try that on mine.

How do you do this?

I have a 2019 and do this. The only thing I don’t like about CarPlay is that it doesn’t show the channel or song when I’m listening to SiriusXM, so you go to the Ford Home Screen and you don’t have a map anymore.

On yours do you have to have it connected by cord to have your phone used or you can actually just have it automatically blue tooth it to the sync? Sounds like an update issue.

Install update
Turn on your vehicle. If this is the first time you’ve used SYNC, or you’ve recently done a Master Reset, you may be prompted to enable automatic updates.
Connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network by going into Settings >Wi-Fi.
Select your network and enter the password.
Once you are connected, go back to Settings and select the General button, then tap Automatic System Updates, then tap Scan for Updates Now.
After the scan completes, verify that the "Last Checked for Updates" date reflects today's date and time.
If there is an update available, it will begin to download in the background.
A confirmation message will appear on your screen when the download and update are complete. The length of time may vary, but your vehicle does not need to remain running for the update to occur.

My 2017 is always slow to repond

Go to battery, unhook the positive for about 15 minutes and see if that fixes it

We had the same issue on our 2017 super duty. Only started happening AFTER we did the updates
Solution: buy a wireless dongle and use apple carplay or the android equivalent. It eliminated the freezing and not being able to stay hooked up to the Bluetooth

I have a 16 and deal with the same things. The having to hit buttons multiple times to get it to change from am to fm or Bluetooth started a few months ago. The dropping Bluetooth connection and reconnecting(sometimes it won’t reconnect until I turn the truck off and open the door to turn the radio off) has been going on for years. It’s a company truck so I just deal with it. Pain in the arse.

I have the same issue. 2017 F-250. Sometimes it get so locked up I have to pull over and shut the truck off and restart everything. Don know if it's the cheaper long cables that you buy at the gas station or something else. Pain in my AZZ. Some time it just turns off. That is the only issue I ever have with the truck.

It’s that generation SYNC. My wife’s 2019 Explorer does crazy things all the time and I have to reset it. Reset has never failed to fix it though. Various Ford forums have the issue documented really well as it’s pretty widespread.
My 2020 F-150 has the new generation SYNC and I’ve had no issues with it.

Have the same issue with my 2016. Apparently it is a common and known issue with an APIM module that needs to be replaced and reprogrammed. For some reason Ford refuses to issue a recall. There are several Ford forums that discuss the same problem. I had mine looked at Ford wanted around $1500 to fix it. I just do the reset thing every few weeks.
