You can buy cow pellets and I will typically drop one of those in the bucket with them as they float in the water. This has kept them alive for up to three weeks.

Don’t put them in the body do water. I keep ice on deck and drop a little in the bucket here and there. They like the cooler water. I’ve even kept shiners in the fridge for a week. Bottom line is that cool water keeps them alive longer.

you can if you keep them long term, throw in dry dog or cat food for them, it floats and they can eat as much as they want.

as far as keeping them, its best to keep them in a round wire cage with wooden top so its shaded and there are no corners to stop them from swimming easy and the wood top makes it float

I was going to say the same thing. Buy what you need and let any extra go. They don't do as well in July/August as they do in December.

very true but chlorinated water can kill them.....just freeze a few small plastic water bottles and no melt

I can catch them, it's only easy feeding for the otters. They can tear up traps bad.
I'll get mine at Cecil's.
