I'm buying a compact tractor (1st.time buyer) primary use is around the house. It will be used once or twice a year at the deer camp. All implements are the same, trailers same size. Both are 4wd with HST The prices are basically the same which one do y'all recommend? No other brands will be considered.

6 one way 1/2 dozen the other. Kubota is Japanese and the Mahindra is Mitsubishi. Which ever dealer you trust the most is who I'd buy.

L2501 Kubota and it isn’t even close.

Mahindra’s service and parts support is horrid.

The L2501 Kubota, because it stays under the 25 hp mark is easily their most reliable model- it has absolutely ZERO emissions controls.

2501 can handle a 5’ bushhog and because of its lack of electronics, may be the best bet for a limited use deer lease tractor today.

Sorry but a 5 ft rotary cutter on a 19 (PTO) HP tractor is not real smart. It takes about 7hp per ft of cutter to operate comfortably and at a decent rate.

I'm running a JD 990 and the 5 ft chokes it down very often.

Mahindra are Indian, not Japanese.

That green thing is your problem.

L2501s handle 5’s very well. They surprise the snot out of you. Likely because the engine is rated at 2100 rpm vs. that 2700 rpm gutless Yanmar wonder in yours.

That "gutless" green thing is a 40 hp tractor and a lot more than your Kubota.

I tell anyone buying a new tractor to get a Kubota or a Deere because their customer service, servicing, warranty is so much better than most other brand. We own a lot of tractors in my family and we buy nothing but Kubotas now

At least the Kubota is actually a Kubota- your tractor was built in a Yanmar plant, sent over on a skid to JDs Augusta works, they put the tires on and charged you more than the Yanmar version because it has a green sticker.

C’mon man, by your calculation you need a 120hp tractor to pull a 15’ bushhog. I’ve covered thousands of acres in my life and it’s overkill.

And, my tractor isn’t gutless at all- the biggest thing I have now is a 13L powered 450. It’s definitely not gutless.

Kubota all day every day. I’ve got a tractor, two zero turns, and a UTV that are all Kubota. Every one is solid and has performed flawlessly.

Not ragging on any other brand, but I can’t say enough good about my Kubota equipment

The L2501 turns a 5’ bush hog just fine. Cut 4 acres with one and have zero problem.
Kubota all the way...

No, technically by my calculation a 15ft should be on a 105 hp tractor and that is about right.

I didn't tell him to buy either one, I said to buy the tractor with the dealer he had the most confidence in. Both tractors he listed are solid units and dealer support will be the most value to him.

We do tractors by engine hp now. PTO ratings are over.

A 120 would be about 102 at the PTO and is a waste of money totally for a 15’ batwing.

Length of the cutter X 5 + 10 = horse power recommended for optimal use of most rotary cutters.

Length of the cutter X 5 = minimum hp required

Doing the math... He's pretty spot on.

I run a 6ft behind an old 38 hp international and it's fine.

But in my experience, rotating mass matters.

The older tractors have A LOT more rotating metal... And they don't bog down nearly as bad.

Got a 3 cyl Perkins, 50hp, will run a 6ft bushhog in anything but thick Bahia.

I think it depends on the the rotary cutter, whether the back is closed or open.I have a John Deere 790(26 h.p.),previously had Bush Hog 5 ft.that was closed on back end.Bought new Kodiak 5 ft.with open back, doesn’t bog down nearly as bad.
I’ve been very happy with my JD 790’s(have 2).Neighbor has Kubota and it’s good tractor.
