It just reopened after being closed for a while. I believe it was to remove/reduce grass and restock the fish population.
It used to be a great place to fish then dropped off considerably. I live about 5 miles from it but haven’t been in years.

It was closed for 2 years to remove giant Sylvania and to also refertilize the lake. It doesn't self refertilize, so they Drew it down and let grass grow. Let it fill back up, the grass will die and that will refertilize. They will have to do this every 5 or so years, the plan is not to close it in the future, just draw down to a lower winter pool.

It opened on the 15th, I went on the 16th. There was 136 boats there that day. I fished from about 7:30am until 5pm and caught 53, the largest coming in at 5lbs, there were a lot over 3. I seen a lot of guys keeping fish under the slot, which is fine. Also seen some guys keep slot fish and got busted. It's a federal lake so those were federal tickets. Went back the next week and only got to fish for about 2 hours but still caught 16. Didn't see a single agent there that day. As long as this lake is managed right, it'll produce big fish. It's stocked with F1's.
During the closure, they stocked it with 400k panfish, 50k catfish and 5000 gizzard shad. Bass numbers were healthy so they didn't restock any of them.

I got to fish that lake the first day it ever opened. Slept in the truck in line the night before. We caught fish all day with several 4-5 lbs and the biggest almost 8 lbs. Got a picture holding the fish signed by Bill Dance for it.
It made me sad to see it decline in later years, but hope they have it back right and sustainable. Beautiful waters.

That's impressive. What kind of marker did he use to sign the fish?

Was great when it first opened. Been sucky for the last decade or so after they stopped fertilizing it. Now it costs 900k a year to do it so thats not going to happen. We'll see if their new eco-method works very well.

Also would help if people didn't think the fish limits are there to tell you exactly how many fish to put in the freezer. Some people dgaf about anything related to C&R. For some reason the Feds or State still keeps limits comparable to a 30k acre reservoir. Its a small lake in the middle of a lake "desert" that gets tons of pressure.
