Making the trip up there for the first time on Friday to do some bow hunting. Has anyone ever had any experience up there? Any tips or pointers?

TIA

Hunt hard. Don't post about public lands on public forums.

I'll help you out.

Hunt Area 2. I was there for the lottery hunt a couple of weeks ago and all the deer coming to the check station were from A2. One baw killed a huge 8pt....real healthy buck.

It also helps that most of the pressure is in A1, so I guess the deer moved further east.

And remember that you're on Fed land - agents there don't mess around. I think they should honestly close the refuge for a season and help the deer population increase. A few years ago, it was a bloodbath in there for the primitive hunts and it hasn't been the same since. But, your best luck right now would be area 2 on the east side. Good luck baw.

*one final note, just before getting into the refuge, there's a sign on the right with some property for sale that borders the refuge.....for the small price of 450k

I can't help with any tips out there.

But does anyone remember the ole baw on Louisiana Sportsman that used to bow hunt out there and kill a shite load of deer? He'd take pictures of the broadhead hole with a grim reaper card or something on the deer.

Didn't mean to come off too rude about it but if you find a good spot or have some success, the worst thing you can do for yourself is tell too many 'friends' or post on here or FB or IG with where you killed it.

I've seen it time and time again. Guy kills good deer or lots of ducks, posts about it, location becomes a parking lot

For some reason, folks love to hunt dead deer

If that bothers you, then you should see the Dewey Will's fb page.

Yes. And that's when Lake Ophelia began welcoming 10,000 hunters every Saturday between October and January.
