Is a liberty safe the way to go? or are the 1000 buck ones from costco worth the 50% savings?

I think a safe is one of the things that you get what you pay for. Put a Liberty and this costco brand next to each other and I bet you could see a difference in construction and quality. Compare the weight of similar sized safes. I bet the costco one would be lighter.

I am very happy with my Liberty as well.

i understand this.... but for a 50% increase in price is the Liberty worth it.

IMO the random person breaking into your home wont be able to get into anything very quickly.... And Pros will be able to get into anything. Its not like im housing multiple multi thousand dollar guns that should be in a museum. Im just trying to add one more layer of security around my guns incase of a break in.

I have the Lincoln 50. My wife wanted something that looked nice if it was going to be that big.

My thought process is that if a thief finds and steals just one of my rifles, it would pay for a safe. If I get a cheap safe, put my rifles together and they them all, what's another $1000?

I vote for the Liberty and will be getting myself a Fatboy for Christmas.

Im not talking about a safe from walmart made from sheet metal. Im just in the mindset that the $1000 safes protect your equipment from the average burglar than the $2500 safes. Think of your snatch and grab thief, they are not looking to spend and house figuring out how to break into a safe. Most are too dumb. 2nd the pros that can get into these safe quickly will be going for a safe with 250k worth of guns and jewels in it.

I want someone to try and sway my opinion. Give me something i havent thought it.

How big of a safe are you looking for? $2500 is a big arse safe. I got my liberty for 1600 shipped to the house and put in place.

I have the Bighorn from Costco.

The fire rating was comparable to the other brands I looked at and it weighs several hundred pounds empty. The locking bolts are on 3 sides with internal hinges. I have no concerns about it protecting my stuff.

Correct. Untill you step up to a real safe and not a storage container, they are all just about the same. Most are the same 12ga thickness and weight. May get lucky and find 10ga. Some have more bolts than others. Sure, some look nicer and some locks may be smoother, but they are all close enough.
Unless you are willing to spend 5 Grand, just spend what you can on the biggest.

No theif is getting into my Cannon. Not saying it is not theif proof, but the time and tools to get in will not alllow him to do so. If a theif can get in my cannon then he would also be able to get into a Liberty.

Challenge accepted.

Liberty Fatboy vs Costco brand
Thicker metal
Lot more locking bolts
Much larger
Much better fire protection (higher temp and longer time)
Comes with lights, dehumidifier rod, and organizer.
Liberty warranty (will replace any safe that is attempted to be broken into or fire damaged)

All this for less than $1000 more and it holds 64 guns. Don't have that many? It comes setup to house a computer and server for privacy too.

CarRamrod, you got a costco membership? if not let me buy it for you and you can then pay me back. I won't charge you for the convenience, will just take me 2% cash back from costco.

Sure, I can get into your cannon with a fire axe just like a liberty. However, in the event of a fire, how's your protection compared to a liberty? Those spot welds are going to let lots of super heated air in over a single solid weld.

Also, what's the capacity of yours vs the 64 fatboy?

I agree 100% that a RSC cannot compare to a true safe but to say that all RSCs are the same is foolish.

Cannon makes a nice safe. Even if it has Costco stamped on the door it is likely made by someone else. My safe was made by Liberty but has Cabela's on the door.

Cannon 1200 at 30 min vs FatBoy 1200 at one hour. But beware on fire ratings and understand how they achieve their ratings.
The Fire protection is rated ok as a safe goes. Living in a very populated area with my safe on an outside wall, It will be fine. The difference between my options would not make a difference

48 gun cap, not as nice as the 60 fatboy but I had to go with htat size due to the location I installed it.
