State records

Some notable:

White Bass record= 6.81, Amite River
Channel catfish= 30.31, Minor’s canal I have a hard time believing this.

Caney Lake top 10 rankings: Largemouth bass 6 out of top 10, Black Crappie 5 out of 10, Redear Sunfish 8 out of 10. Caney was a beast.

That 47.5# striped bass would have been a blast to catch.

I wish someone would either top the #1 Speckled Trout or it just get booted completely since it's practically confirmed a fraud.

Baton Rouge University Lake producing a 15+lb bass is funny as hell looking at the lake now.

and I can't imagine what a 20lb Choupique would do my fishing gear. The 3 and 4lb ones turn my spinnerbaits into pretzels and straighten hooks.

Big speckled trout often have very few spots. I imagine it might actually be a speckled trout that managed to grow out of all its spots instead of a true white trout.

I thought Caney had the state record Channel Catfish too. Kenny Cobb caught a huge one back in the 90s fishing with a waterdog.

I've caught a Redear Sunfish that would make the book and probably the state record Chain Pickerel.

I believe it was caught in a gill net. Or at least people think it was since you can see pretty obvious net markings on the fish.

Kind of surprising how little it would take to get into the top 3-5 with gafftop and channel cats.

Gigantic. Here's the 172lb world record speared off of Brazil for reference.

Older LA Sportsman article:

LINK

TLDR Version: Rumored to be caught in a gill net in Florida and hauled here, you can see the net line around the middle of the fish, and where all the slime/scales would've been scraped off near the tail when they pulled it out the net. Claimed to have come from Lake Hermitage when Hermitage was a very poor trout habitat that barely held female trout, let alone record setting female trout.

Yep could have had #3 gaff top. Placed first in Houma oilmans years ago with a 7lb 15oz caught in big bayou dularge. Did score me a Calcutta reel and a nice print though

Yep, definitely can see the net line around the middle. How the state allowed this to go into the record books is plain stupid.

Here's a link to a better, more detailed explanation. The link to the article is dead(Advocate) but the article is copy/pasted into this old OB thread. Good read and a pretty solid case that it's a fraud.
