To all LSU fans out there that are looking to build a pole barn or any type of shop building, buyer beware of Mallett Buildings or Best Buy, owned by Lee Mallett. As you may know Lee Mallett is on the Board of Supervisors at LSU. From a recent Google search of him, I found back in April of 2018 he was promoting his pole barn business on this outdoor board. In April of 2020 I purchased a building from his company and man do I regret it.
From the day that the building was delivered till the end when the gutters were installed, it is almost unbelievable how bad it is to do business with Lee Mallett. Google his companies and you will see for yourself. If anyone wants to contact me, I can provide overwhelming evidence of how bad his business's are. Lee Mallett is also on the State Board of Contractors as the Chairman and has far reaching connections throughout the state of Louisiana.

in the interest of fairness if you are going to call the man and his business out in public like this you should also post the evidence

1) Communication with Lee Mallett's employees is a nightmare.
2) Lee Mallett's building framer missed the building elevation 10" to high, which will cost me.
3) Due to recent damage from Hurricane Ida I learned that my #1 Mallett building was put together with nails instead of screws.
4) To many problems to list them all here.

You better be on site when they pour the concrete.
Some places the slab wasn't even 1/2" thick.
Pull some strings and stand out there and check with a tape measure. Make sure you get what you pay for.
A buddy found out the hard way when his small tractor cracked his slab. Started poking around. Thin as shite. He estimated half the concrete he paid for wasn't there.

I have heard of lots of unsatisfied customers of his.

I have a Mallet building. It’s badass- I am particular as hell, and it’s perfect.
It also survived Ida with no issues and I live
DTB.
Mallet is very strict about their processes- if you don’t follow it to a T, you will be very unhappy.

I also had one built in 2020. It’s a great building and suffered no damage in IDA. I ordered another one a few weeks ago.

My building is the reason why Mallett allegedly uses 80 cameras for quality control now. Sooner or later if you keep playing with a snake you'll get bit.

I had core samples done on my slab and in several spots it was barely 2 1/2" thick. Lee Mallett declared that to be within industry standards of a 4" slab. It also had honeycomb on the edges that was 1 1/2" thick and once again Lee Mallett declared that was ok, it could be patched.

You're joking right, that Lee Mallett is strict about their process. If Mallett missed on your elevation by 10" to high, pours your slab to thin, and replaces your gutters four times and they still are not correct, and Ida damage reveled that the building was put together with nails instead of screws, would you be unhappy?
You sound like Lee Mallett's PR guy.

What would be a better value...one of the buildings from Mallett or a Carolina Carport type building?
Im in the market for a 30x40x14 and am looking into both.
Carolina Carport= My concrete guy can pour a 6 inch slab 31x41 for 7500 with metal keyways and wire mesh. Then the quote for the building is 20000 incl taxes, delivery and install. (3 10x10 rollups, walk in door and 2 windows). I got the building quote online from Alans Factory Outlet. So a total of 27500.
The mallett building appears to be a turnkey package that will run around 35000 (but thats with 4 inch fibermesh concrete)
Is the Mallett building worth the extra 7500 over my carolina carport plan?

They besieged me with e-mails and calls after skiing for a quote. They seem shady.
Google his son for more interesting stuff.

If you go 6” you’ll want to use footers and rebar in the footers. That may increase your costs a little more, but still a good
Option.

Pole barns are shite in general, that's why there so cheap. There's not much material that goes into one. Get a metal frame building

I am not familiar with Carolina Carports, but I am with Mallett Buildings. First thing I would do is check the parish permit requirements for wind rating and etc. Through my experience I would pour a 4" 4000 PSI slab, with fiber, with a rebar reinforced footing with keyway for expansion.
I had to repour my slab at my own expense after Mallett poured it. The surface finish was absolutely terrible. Core samples revealed that spots were only 2 1/2" thick, and had honeycomb around the edges. Ida damage revealed that the wing of my #1 Mallett Building was put together with nails instead of screws.
I wouldn't recommend Mallett to build you a dog house. I would fear for your dogs safety!!!

Just curious if you learned anymore information on building comparisons. Did you check with Reed's Metal Buildings? I haven't dealt with them personally but they have been in this area for a long time. Anything is got to be better than Mallett Buildings.
