So, let's discuss your favorite combos for different lures, etc. You can include specific brands if you want. But, I'm more interested in the actual specs, rather than brands. Let's stick to this format:

Reel: 8:2:1 baitcaster
Rod: MH, 7 2, fast action
Line: 20lb braid, 12lb fluoro leader
Lure: Texas rig, 1/8 weight, senko or craw

Reel: 2500 spinning
Rod: M, 7 4, fast or xf
Line: 20-30lb braid, 12 lb fluoro leader
Lure: plastic or live shrimp under popping cork

I'm needing to learn from some of you guys to expand my arsenal.

What we catching?

My favorite general purpose rig is:

Calcutta 200B
Medium heavy rod
30lb power pro

Have caught bass, countless reds, specs, big ol cats, mangroves, a 6' shark. Great all around South Louisiana getup

My largemouth rigs, walleye rigs and crappie rigs are too diverse to remember in an altered state of consciousness, so I will list my 2 that I do most often, stripers and drifting for large blues.

Stripers: 7.2:1 baitcaster, 7' M/ML with mod fast action and 17 lbs mono for live shad or topwater like a Super Spook.
If I am throwing a P-Line Sassin Jig, I use a 5.2:1 spinning reel with a 7' rod and 20 lbs braid.

Drifting for big blue cats: Abu 6500C3 (5.3:1) with a 7'6" MH with moderate fast (Whisker Seeker) with 30 lbs mono and 60 lbs mono leaders and Folbe rod holders.

Definitely true. I fish for stripers, walleye, big blues and crappie more than I fish for largemouth. My largemouth fishing window is a whole 2 months.

Reel: Stradic Ci4 4000
Rod: Dobyns Champion Extreme 7’3 M
Line: 18lb mono
This is my trout and light reds setup for popping cork.

Reel: Shimano Bantam MGL 8.1:1
Rod: Dobyns Champion Extreme 7’3 MH
Line: 50lb power pro
Use this for sight fishing reds, topwaters, etc.

Have other setups but 99% of the time I’m using one of those two.

I'm jealous. I just counted. I have 8 functioning rod and reels, 9 if you count the cane pole

There are a few Okies around here that I know that don't own rods. They just use their hands.

Looks like most of you guys exclusively use MH rods. Any of you guys use medium rods, and for what techniques (spinning and baitcaster)?

I use more mediums than anything.

Rod: 6'10" Med/Fast Shimano Expride
Reel: Shimano Curado 70 MGL XG (8.2:1)
Line: 20lb Suffix 832 braid
Use: Jerkbaits, topwater poppers, small walking baits, light/small TX rigs, shakey heads, micro jigs, finesse spinnerbaits. Small buzzbaits, smaller swimbaits/underspins, flukes, weightless senkos, the list goes on...

I've even thrown lipless and square bills on it in a pinch.

A 6'9"-7' Med/Fast is an incredibly versatile rod. It has enough backbone for single hook applications and enough give to land treble hook fish. If you're not fishing heavy cover for big fish or really large lures, I defer to that rod when possible.

I've got several very similar setups too:

Rod: 6'10" Med/Mod-Fast Shimano Expride Glass Composite
Reel: Abu Garcia Revo Premier (6.6:1)
Line: 30lb Suffix 832 braid
Use: Squarebills, chatterbaits and whopper ploppers. Could probably throw spinnerbaits on here too but haven't ever needed too.

Rod: 6'10" Med/Fast Halo KSII Elite
Reel: Daiwa Tatula SV TW103 (8.2:1)
Line: 30lb Suffix 832 braid
Use: The tip on this rod is INSANELY soft and loads awesome to sling baits. The top 12-18" will almost double over with the rest of the rod remaining straight. So I use this specific setup to throw finesse presentations. Ned rigs, drop shots, small shaky heads, wacky finesse worms, etc...

Rod: 6'10" ML/XFast Abu Garcia Veracity
Reel: Abu Garcia Revo Rocket (10.1:1)
Line: 40lb Suffix 832 braid
Use: I need a different reel on this rod but they're both red and who doesn't like a match setup... But this is another finesse setup. It has a more traditional rod blank design than the Halo above. I use it for small (70 size) jerkbaits, whopper plopper 60, ned rigs, other finesse applications.

Rod: 6'9" Light Med-Heavy/Mod Fast Kistler KLX
Reel: Abu Garcia Revo Premier (6.6:1)
Line: 30lb Suffix 832 braid
Use: Whopper plopper, lipless, spinnerbaits. I don't love this rod and bought it thinking it has a faster action intending to use it for big jerkbaits and larger poppers but it just doesn't have the action for that. Probably makes a good finesse football jig rod.

Trout:
Curado mgl 71 8.1:1
20 lb suffix 832
Falcon coastal 6'7" med light/mod fast
1/8-1/4 oz jig head with matrix shad or sparkle beetles
I really like my Curado and thinking about getting the 150 mgl for reds.

Sight fishing reds:
Stratic fl 4000
20 lb suffix 832
TFO tactical inshore 7' med/fast
3/8 chatterbait with matrix shad
I also use this for popping cork.

Plugs:
Daiwa bg 3000
12 lb trilene big game
Falcon coastal 7' med/mod
She pups, skitterwalks and mirrodines

Weedless spoon:
Ambassadeur c3 6500
20 lb trilene big game
All star 6'6" med heavy/fast
1/2 oz Johnson weedless gold spoon

Wading:
Van Staal VS 100
12 lb trilene big game
Falcon lowrider 7' Mansfield med/mod
This was my grandpa's setup and would never spend this much on an inshore reel

I have both the curado mgl 70 and the curado mgl 150. I like the 70 balanced better side to side on lighter rods since it's more compact, but that's the only thing about it I've found better than the 150. On a MH rod, I'd want the 150. Casting distance is the same and the 150 has newer braking system, hinged side plate and is cheaper.
