Came across this log today while on a walk with the family. The mushrooms look edible to me but I don't have a good positive ID on them. Anyone out there with better fungal knowledge? I'm in Dallas if that helps.

ETA: Positive ID on the original mushrooms as oysters. Most were too far gone with bugs to harvest but we did manage to get a few.

After looking around though we found this gorgeous cluster of oyster mushrooms on a nearby willow stump:

I've only been able to ID Golden Teachers---for research purposes only.

Other than that, I have no idea.

Im thinking either summer oyster mushrooms or white chanterelles. Will return tomorrow for better pics and to harvest if the right ID comes back

I don't think that chants grow out of wood.

Very good point I had overlooked. I'm now about 95% in the summer oyster camp. Me and a buddy (who is much more well versed in this than I) are going back first thing in the AM to do an additional inspection

Those look like favolous mushrooms to me, but you really need to be looking at the gills. Favolous mushrooms are generally edible but tend to be tough and full of bugs.

The ones posted by Loup are definitely pleurotus (oyster) mushrooms. Its likely pleurotus pulmonarius. Good eating, especially seeing how young/clean they are.
White chanterelles never grow on wood and are somewhat rare in tropical climates.

Correct. They do not.

A good place to post is on facebook group "Mushrooms and Fungi of Louisiana".

Also, when taking pictures for identification, it is good to take multiple photos of the cap, gills, growing location and even ripping them apart and taking a picture of the flesh.
