Nautic Star Boats

Anyone have any experience with Nautic Star Boats? May have an opportunity to buy a 24 foot bay boat for a good price but I have no experience with Nautic Star. I am not to concerned about the condition...I know where it has been kept since new and I know how rarely it has been wet. Main concern is not having any experience with the brand. They are mass produced and they ain't cheap but that doesn't mean anything. Interested in how they perform - wet? Fishable or more about joy riding? That sort of thing. I'd use it mainly in and near shore (passes etc) and lakes but would also go offshore in it under the right circumstances...I have fished 40-50 miles offshore in a similar Sketter bay boat many times. The big bastard looks like it would be a problem in skinny water but all bay boats look that way to me. Any info would be great.

our 24ft is a dream. We fish deep in Biloxi Marsh/Chandys and then run out of Orange Beach to catch snapper in Summer. Have no complaints.
Rides dry (unlike most Skeeters IMO).
10/10 would recommend.

Mine was only a 19, so people with larger ones will have more valuable information. My impressions:
Really good build
A+ components
Below average hull design-didn't cut waves well
Slow
I have fished limited times in a larger one, and it seemed similar but obviously, handled water better.

I had 24" 2400 Tournament Edition for 6-7 years. Loved the boat and virtually no issues.

There are plenty used as guide boats here(70645). Dryer than; 23v Kenner, 24 YF, Majek, Pathfinder, Skeeter.
Hold up extremely well fishing 250 days a year, fast enough, will go shallow, plenty of room to fish 4, preform great even with 225 v6 merc.

Have had two: a 2010?? 19 footer then a 2013 22 footer
Solid no frills boat, does most things pretty well. The 22 ran plenty dry, very stable side to side (224 XTS at the time, now I think that's a 227XTS).
Fit and finish was "decent" but known to have a lot of quality issues with minor things so look carefully at wiring, fittings, thru-hulls, etc.
On delivery of my 22 footer, my front-of-console livewell fill line was not connected to said livewell, thus when turned on, it was simply filling the boat with water, yes, true story. Had someone like my folks accidentally hit the switch on an outing and not paid attention, could have been a pretty big deal.

I have a 2016 224xts I ordered new and love it. It’s a fishing machine but we mostly use it now to cruise to sandbars and joyride. 200hp Yamaha (wish I would’ve paid extra for the 250). Rides very dry unless it’s a cross wind. Used mostly around Delacroix and it’s perfect. Shallow draft to fish ponds. Heavy and long enough to get on top of waves and ride through little lake or lake robin with a chop. Would definitely recommend. Maybe interested in selling as I don’t use it much. Kept under carport and only 93hrs on motor.

Dang, 5 posts and all of them positive. I don't know how I have missed Nautic Star. I am definitely more interested now.

Thats a pretty high bar to get over...I am more interested than I was. I don't know how I have missed the brand...I consider myself pretty well versed in boat hulls and I knew they existed but I haven't ever heard much about them. That may be due to people being pretty satisfied with them...satisfied folks tend to keep quite while disgruntled folks tell everybody everything LOL. Thanks!

Yeah the live well could have been an issue LOL. Pumping it in faster than the bilge can pump it out most likely and if you didn't know it had come on you wouldn't know what was up till you were ankle deep LOL.
Your having owned 2 though is a pretty good testament.
I have restored several boats from the keel up so basic mechanical issues are not a problem...I have owned a pile of boats and tinkering with them is part of the charm for me. That said this would be the second most money I ever spent on a boat and it is not going to be a project if I buy it, I hope...it will be turnkey more or less. It has been sitting a long time though so it will need some work for sure.
I just bought a hurricane deck boat hull that is a project that I am planning on turning into a flat deck center console sled for fly fishing...if I buy this one that will turn into a clean it up and shite it out project. I also have a 13 foot Gheenoe Classic I am 10% into a full restoration on...I will finish that one though, I have owned that hull since 1983.

ALL livewell and thru hull hoses should be double clamped.
All boats should have redundant bilge pumps.
My only concern with the used boat with low hours is the motor, always the low hour motor.
Buy it

My best friend has one and I have been in it over 100 times. It fishes well, is comfortable and laid out well. He got the Redfish Package which means all metal components are stainless. He did modify the leaning post to add rocket launchers where the flip up seat will still be functional. It is a 21' with a 200 SHO that will run 60 with 2 power Pole sportsman's 2 on the back. I really like that boat for what we do in Venice when not bass fishing.

Have a 2015 214xts. It’s decent. Fit and finish isn’t amazing, but not terrible. Hull seems pretty solid.
The wiring is pretty bad from factory though. Still need to get into it and rewire it all. Probably my only real complaint. Granted my bar is set pretty high when it comes to boat wiring. I mean It’s functional, but man they cut some corners when it came to the electrical.
Also you might as well go ahead and rip off the “Nauticstar” badging on the side of hull because it’s pretty much guaranteed to fall off at some point
Overall I’d say it’s a mid-tier boat.

Had to get a couple letters ourselves.
This post reminds me of what we do out of the Nautic Star in Venice.
2016 YT Vid in Venice.

nothing is better than a flatboat for skinny water fishing, that said, bay boats are great as long as you arent looking to leave the canals and go crawling through 6" water chasing after reds.

I have a 21 ft bay and love it. Great for fishing with the family and just running the river to take the kids boarding or riding. Been on plenty boats and it’s one of the driest I’ve been on and cuts waves well. It’s been reliable and I would definitely buy another.

We had a 19' that we bought new an fished for years down around Fourchon.
It was an AWESOME boat. It fished much bigger than its size. Fit and finish was good. It also road WAY smoother and drier than the 24' pathfinder which was the other boat we had down there.

Had an 18' and loved it. Great to fish out of, and handles waves very well, but it can be a little on the slow side. I highly recommend one.

Its a 2 stroke 200 Yamaha so its easy to work on and parts are readily available. I am no outboard guru but I have never had but one I couldn't make run and that's because someone removed the plugs and let it sit for about 10 years. I probably could have fixed it but it was 9.9 merc and I could buy another one just like it for $100.
I know this boat well but never fished out of. I know how seldom its been used and how it has been stored. Other than things that can go wrong from not using them it should be in pretty good shape...and the price range we are discussing is almost what the hull is worth without the engine or dual axle aluminum trailer. Old boy is still on the fence about selling it so I ain't pressuring him but if he says its a go he'll have the money righ fast LOL.
