I've been eyeing the above rifle, seems like it comes with some decent features for the price (fluted barrel, a threaded barrel, a cerakote, 3 position safety, capped/threaded barrel, and a better-than-average trigger). Was looking to get a 300 win mag.

Was just curious if anyone had any recommendations for a similar set up that they thought was better/equal for lesser price/better optioned etc.

I have had an original vanguard for 10+ years and it has performed great. The second generation has some upgrades that I wish I had.

They are nice guns. I actually like the Vanguards more than the MKV guns. I just hate the MKV action. If it were my money, I'm still going Tikka. I think MAP on that model of Vanguard is like $899 or something. I would get a Tikka instead personally.

The new vanguards are the best value on the market right now IMO. Its basically a shameless copy of the rem 700 with every rem 700 "issue" addressed. 3 position safety, sako extractor, great trigger, recoil lug integral to the action. I had one and a howa 1500 (the weatherby is a rebranded howa) and both shot great and were lightweight.

Just assorted north american game, largest being elk.

My 308 can handle anything I'll be shooting but I wanted to get a more "rugged" rifle with the cerekote and synthetic materials since my 308 Tikka is more of a wood finish and more susceptible to scratches and damage. So figured I'd go 300 win mag incase the opportunity ever came to shoot something larger than Elk.

Why? I’ve been shooting one for over 20 years and love it.

Agreed - .270 wsm that once i figured out the right ammo shot.

Wish it had the 3 position safety and a better trigger.

I have it in 270 wsm as well. only problem is how hard it is to find 270 wsm in regular times, much less in ammo shortage times.

Not smooth at all. That last bit of camming up before the bolt will go back is the most stupid design ever.

that's a nice looking piece.
My 300wm is my most accurate so I use it on everything except the subsonic/night thing.
