Anyone else having issue with this..,, Wife and I went to purchase handguns Sunday she was cleared to proceed I was put on delay. I went ahead and purchased the gun because they’re in short supply...it’s been 5 days now and dealer won’t transfer the weapon even though it’s been more than 72hrs... and no answer from NICS other than it’s still delayed...

You picked the wrong dealer. Unless you have been denied, they can sell you the weapon after 3 business days, and no call back. Some chain stores, like academy, won't do it though. Always ask about policy upfront. In The future get a CCP and a unique permanent ID#.

Cabela’s

From what I’ve seen on line the FBI urges dealers wait on sale/transfer until they get a proceed or a denied because of the record number of checks NICS is getting
I’ve already paid for the weapon Cabela’s just won’t release it to me until they get an answer from NICS
Claims there’s hundreds waiting

Had an issue once, they gave me a Unique Personal Identification Number (UPIN). No more waiting.

Go get your money back. Go to a local gun shop or order online. Send to a local FFL.
It Cabelas doesn’t want to play ball, screw then

Tell them to refund your money and have your wife go immediately behind you and purchase it.

I had 3 purchased guns from Basspro transferred to an FFL that would release after 3 days. Done

Yeah, that'd be my advice too.

Forget a sec that it's "a gun"; this is a purchase you just spent several hundred dollars on, and you've now met every LEGAL requirement. The law says it can be released after 3 business days without a Decline.

I get that the problem is, there ain't much to choose from right now, and you might be looking at another couple weeks by the time you find something you want, it ships, and it's processed/cleared. By this time your current pistol likely gets released, and you have it.

Future note- do not buy from them again.

In 30 days they should transfer to another dealer (I did Bowie Outfitters). Cost and extra $40

This just happened to me at Acadamy this morning. I was trying to buy a 9mm and the background check was put on hold. They told me they would call me when it came through but they never did, I guess I'll have to try someone else

If you got delayed, it's going to happen everywhere. The difference is, other places will let you have the gun after 3 business days. It's been a while since I did a background check, but they use to almost never call back with a go ahead. Be prepared to wait 3 business days, no matter where you go.

I see, thanks for that. It's weird, I just bought one a little over a year ago and didn't have any issue but I guess this may be the new reality. I might bring the wife along next time and see if it happens under her name just for kicks

I guess, I'm backtracking a bit. I never sold guns during a time like this, when it was this crazy. If you have bought before, and didn't have a problem, it may have been due to the heavy workload right now. Still, I wouldn't expect them to call back with a go ahead.

One of the reasons I got my CCW. Don’t have to worry about the NICX phone call. Just fill out the 4473 and be on your way.

Had this exact same thing happen a few weeks ago. I was approved while wife was still picking out a gun. She gets delayed after she picked her gun. They wouldn't let either one of us take possession and said since we have the same address that we should have done it at the same time.

I wish they would have told me that beforehand.

No they don’t. Law says 3 days. As a matter of fact there needs to be a clarification by the ATF on this situation. These stores are setting themselves up for a lawsuit

A business can have a policy of not completing the sale as long as it’s across the board. Now if you walked in with a MAGA hat and they said anyone that I delayed with a MAGA hat can’t complete the sale then you would have a case. I don’t agree with it but it’s not breaking any law.

You have better odds of getting BLM to jump on the Trump train.
