Has anyone used this ammo or bullet on deer ? Norma is selling component bullets and I am looking at the 160 grain 7mm for a 280 AI I am building. Little info out there, and Norma describes it as fast rapid expanding with a locked core similar to a Hornady Interlock. I like the fact that they are flat based and have a decent BC as well, just don't want to lose a deer on a shoulder or chest shot if they come apart too easily.

Have not used those but I use Bondstrikes in my .300wsm. They shoot great. Anything Norma makes is GTG.

was not familiar with them so I googled them

I'm sure they will be fine but you need make sure you are aware that they are a ballistic tip.

That means they are designed to grenade in the soft organs. You will most likely not get a pass through with them.

If you are ok with that then go ahead but just be aware.

Yeah I read that as well. I may just hold out for some 154 grain Interlocks whenever they become available.

How about some 175 interlocks?

If they are similar construction to a ballistic tip or a accubond, then you should be good. I've never had a deer take a step after passing one of those through the chest.

While I am a Norma fanboy, the tip strike seems a lot like a Hornady SST to me, which I definitely do not like

My barrel is a 1:9 twist and would stabilize those 175's just fine, but I think those are overkill for 150 lb deer and don't sound like much fun to practice with

Ho Lee shite

All this time I thought ballistic tips were developed for long range impact expansion. Which translated to all the fragmenting and jacket separation at close range (high velocity).

Not really overkill, more like not necessary to me. I like to shoot and practice with my hunting loads as well as target loads in similar weights, and my shoulder likes the sound of a 154-162 grain bullet better than a 175-180 grain
