For those who make the trip to Oklahoma to hunt ducks, is the hunting still good? An acquaintance told me it was starting to fall off. I would appreciate any recommendations for duck guides with lodges in Oklahoma. Also, interested in shooting specks…not Canadas so much.
Thanks for any recommendations

That wasn’t the case for us last year. Hunting red rock outfitters. We’ll see how this year goes, but their prices definitely aren’t starting to fall off… quite the opposite.

I’ve only ever hunted ducks with them.

Depends where you go but NE OK isn’t what it used to be. So many outfitters leasing up land now that you mostly have to go with the big guys: Red Rocks, Blue Stem, Fowl Co.
The tough part is finding outfitters that only hunt about 4 guys.

Fried potatoes from the refuge forum will put you on em. Okie’s greatest duck killer.

If specks is your goal, Oklahoma may not be the place. There’s plenty of specks there but they’re often wrapped up with big bunches of little geese. I’m not saying you won’t kill a handful here and there but it’s a tougher place to target specks specifically

Its still much better than Louisiana! But even the guides at Red Rock have told me its falling off some from their standards.

I've only ever been w Red Rock a few times. They generally let you pick if you want ducks or geese. Lots of honkers mixed in w specs though.

Oklahoma is not the place you want to go if you’re interested in specks.

But for ducks and little geese sbar, coastal wings, then there’s the big boys like salt plains, bluestem, red rock.

Oklahoma is not what it used to be, it’s still very productive, but it’s far from what it was 5 or so years ago.

This, we don't really kill anything but small Canadas in Okie and even the Mallards are becoming harder to get on consistent.

I heard the Texas panhandle was starting to hold good concentrations of Specks and I know Stuttgart area still holds a bunch.

We went to Fowlco last year and it was excellent.

Going on 4 or 5yrs now with red rocks. They’re getting expensive and their accommodations aren’t great for what you pay, but they work hard and kill birds. Hunting has been decent at best the last couple of years, but I’m chocking that up to early season and the unusually warm weather that lingers around until mid December.

I hunt with Goose Reapers in SW Oklahoma every year late December or early Jan. Can't recommend them enough. Although we typically prefer to duck hunt, on the tougher years, we will settle for a lesser shoot. As others have said, the past two years have been pretty warm, but they still managed to put us on them both years. Also, if specks are what you are truly looking for, do yourself a favor and just get an early season speck hunt in Arkansas with Fowlco Arkansas. You will need to book this one pretty far in advance because they stay pretty booked up for the early season.
