this year i bought some okra plants already started instead of my usual starting from seeds. i put them in the ground +/- 4 weeks ago and w/in 2 weeks they started to flower because its been so warm. late last week all the leaves fell off 14 out of the 15 plants i planted. wth?

It's early for okra. Cool snap probably messed them up a little.

I am going to guess one of three things:

1. Too much water
2. Cold weather
3. Fungus got on leaves due to water and cool temps.

Okra comes from Africa. It loves hot weather and is probably meant to withstand drought. This does not mean it should not be watered; just water less frequently. Good luck.

i agree it was probably the cool snap on plants this young. i've grown okra for the past 5 years but always started from seed. this year i didn't feel like waiting for the seeds to get going so i bought plants.

Fertilizer burned them. Bell peppers do the same thing with early fertilizing. Healthy looking plant then boom all leaves drop.

We had a pretty bad drought starting late last summer. Everything I had planted that was still producing in early August started dying off from the heat. I prolonged the garden for about 2 weeks with lightly watering every other day. But then it wasn't worth it. My Okra was still producing in late September. And I watered it once or twice a week, just because they were still thriving. They don't need a ton of water.

By the way..right now you are what would be early in the growing season most years. Back when I was a kid you didn't plant until Mother's Day. So you still have more than enough time to replant. Even from seed.
