Old JD 709 rotarry cutter ( cant find parts)

Wish I had some pics but im struggling to find a replacement slip clutch for a 709 JD cutter. Gear box has the long splined shaft with about 2 inches of threads at the end. The old, bowl type slip clutch fit over it and a nut held it in place. The PTO shaft had a plate on the end that bolts to the slip clutch housing.
Now I cant find a slip clutch similar that slips over the shaft and is held on by that nut in the center. Havent been able to find any adapters either.
I doubt this description is worth a shite but had to try as im out of options

Have you checked eBay?

Found this picture on the internet.
The clutch and round housing slips over the shaft and is held on by a nut in the center where the yoke is. The yoke is attached to a plate that bolts to the housing of the clutch

Had this pic saved. It’s shows the shaft coming from the gear box. As you can see it doesn’t fit any other type.

Don’t see where that would work. Clutch has to be open on both ends to be able to slip over it and the bolt threaded on

Got one just like that. Cost me $120 just for two bolts and nuts when I changed the blades. Got the blades local.
The JD place here in New Roads might be able to help you. I could not find those bolts and nuts, but they did.

There should be a part number on the clutch housing somewhere you could look up. Gonna be a bitch otherwise

Ralph is the one that found the clipper for me. We didn’t know it would be this hard to find a fix. That cane farmer WJ had it sitting up

Why not fix the one you have instead of replacing the whole thing? Or is it missing?

All the clutch plates are rusted out. I could possibly replace all of them but don’t really know where to start. Was hoping I could buy the whole thing already put together and just slap it on and go
Or even better, figure out a way to convert that shaft on the gear box to accept a more modern clutch and replace the whole pto shaft as well

It is still available from JD but it is expensive, probably be cheaper to repair it.
Replacing input shaft on the gearbox to a newer style is doubtful, they are made to fit specific gears, even if possible replacing that and a new clutch and pto shaft will cost you way more than just buying a complete clutch or fixing yours.

That's one of them things that you gotta find the right old man at the right store that knows what it is. Without part numbers it ain't gonna be easy.
Maybe you can match that gearbox to a newer model bush hog and cross reference to a newer clutch that works? You'll have to find the old guy at the parts counter

Nah man, replace the discs. Is it slipping or what? Otherwise tighten that bitch down and go 'head. Had a little short Deere open-end wrench to adjust the clutches. My old man has one and had another, the clutch was either too loose or too tight on the previous, and he twisted the yoke off the one he has now the other day.
The cheapest option might be to shorten the shaft on the gear box, grind a groove on the 1000rpm splined shaft and put a shear bolt drive shaft on that bitch. But shear bolts suck. Keep er out the dirt baw.

Actually thought about doing something similar to that except to cut it down, and put a lock groove in it so it would take a common slip clutch. Problem then is if it doesn’t work I’m really in a bind and will have to replace the whole rear box

Im certain you can find a rebuild kit for it. I cant find the good online Deere parts catalog on this ipad, ill link it tomorrow from the pc.
The deck on yours looks great though, most o the ones ive seen were rusted out 20 yrs ago.
