More bad neighborhoods than good in my epxereince. If you can afford South Shreveport, that's where I would look. The Broadmoore and South Highlands areas are also very nice, affordable, and centrally located.

I would be looking in bossier
just avoid the area around barksdale unless you enjoy bombers flying over your head all day

North Bossier is the only answer.

There's a lot of questions that go into this. Do you need land? A gated neighborhood? Budget? South Shreveport near Ellerbe Road has a bunch of neighborhoods that you can find something in for all price ranges. That's the safe bet as you'll be in a safe part of town with good schools.

Assuming you are moving for residency or fellowship. I would look in South Highlands. Thats were we lived in medical school and the convenience was unmatched. We lived on Jefferson right off Kings and Line. Most medical students/residents will live in that area. Could also look further south toward Southern Trace but that will stretch your budget.

I wouldn’t move to Bossier unless you’re worried about schools. I grew up in Bossier and we lived there my first year of medical school. It was a pain in the arse driving all the way across town every day and will be even worse with the I20 construction going on.

What good schools? People off of Ellerbe send their kids to private schools.

My wife works there. We live in Broadmoor, both of us grew up in South Highlands. The neighborhoods are next to each other, South Highlands has bigger 2 story homes, Broadmoor is mostly single story. As someone else said, the closeness to LSU Oschner is a huge bonus.

My family has rental units on Fairfield that we rent to medical students. That's pretty much the Western boundary of South Highlands, and the bad area around LSU Oshner. You are only a mile away from LSU Oshner, but in the thick of it if you travel towards Line and Youree for dining and entertainment, etc..

If you are just wanting to rent, I can get you in touch with the management company. Your budget is right on. Ours are occupied, but I know they company that manages them has quite a few and medical students are who they want over... You know... Those other folks.

Are you planning on renting or buying? If buying, you need a total cost, not monthly budget. If renting, Broadmoor or South Highlands will probably have more rental options.

What age? South Highlands is a good elementary school as well as Eden Gardens, CMM is a good middle school, there are multiple good high schools. I know a ton of people that lived in South Shreveport and went to public schools

The area near Byrd High School at Line Ave. and south to Pierremont Rd. will probably have some very nice homes in that range. I live near Ki Mexico and the area is mostly really nice.

Howdy neighbor.

I'm very close to the Ockley bridge.

As to where we are located in Broadmoor and my wife working at LSU Oshner...

She pulls out by the bridge and goes North on Gilbert to Ratcliff. Hang a left, stay straight all the way through the Southern end of the old Sears parking lot. Hang a right on Southern, and a quick left under I-49. Pop out on the South side of LSU Oschner. It's maybe a 5 minute commute for her.

Hey Chat. I have worked at LSU then Ochsner LSU for over 25 years. Had several Furnished rentals i rented almost exclusively to med students and travel nurses. All the info in here is solid. The highlands areas are so close to the hospital, it makes a huge difference if coming for a demanding residency program. Taking call 10 minutes away can be great.

North and South Bossier are better living situations but traffic in both are significant (although not bad at 6am or 8pm common travel times for residents).

I grew up off Ellerbe and went to public school. Of course, that was a long time ago.
