Pool deck surface question: limiting surface rocks

We have a swimming pool deck that is very uncomfortable to walk on.
The pea gravel was not mortared high enough an the exposure of the mortar can put a hurting on our feet. It’s like walking on gravel for the kids.
The estimate to remove and replace it is 17 grand.
Are there any options? We bought the house ata discount.
Can we add grout or mortar to the crevices or sand down the pea gravel for a fraction of the cost to replace it?

Hire a stucco contractor to put a skim layer of stucco on it.

I had an existing exposed aggregate patio that butted up to my pool deck, I ended up getting the entire thing done with sundeck and it came out great. They put a skim coat down to level out the aggregate, troweled on the texture coat, ground flagstone pattern in, then coated. was approx $5sf. Glad I did it, came out great and its alot easier to walk on.

You could lay tile over the existing and bullnose down to pool coping. I did it once at an old pool and it came out fantastic

couple months ago, yes in ascension.
It was done through my pool builder but you can deal direct with them as well. They did an awesome job, were real detailed in taping everything off to eliminate over spray and did a great job cleaning up. Took them 4 days, was alot of work!

I'm a pool builder in the Houston area. I would recommend having cool/spray deck applied over the top of the pea gravel. Should be able to have this done for no more than $5-6 a sq ft.

No. One of my hobbies is masonry and did a little stucco work on a block wall.
