I had no idea they were building all of this. Glad to see it, but not that our tax dollars are paying for it.

It is Plaquemines parish after all so disappearing tax dollars shouldn't really shock anyone. I question why funds should go to a place which might be the most vulnerable to hurricanes on the entire coast.

exactly. This almost makes me want to get a houseboat and move my operation from Dulac to Port Eads!

Venture, you must work for Cajun.
Is it going to have electricity?

Word on the street is that they kicked out anyone who had a lease and that this will be a place for officials to "entertain" big money interests. A Nungesser playground if you wish...

So my crappy houseboat wouldn't fit, huh?

Use that thing for something other than a hat rack MB, we know someone that would have an inside track on a slip. Now as far as building restrictions go, I'm thinking multi level 3br, 2 bath.

Let's build it ST. My motto about camps is that it has to be nice enough that the women will come but not nice enough to where they want to come every time.

Owner just bought a cat, and I'm about to start building barge for the houseboat we have on Belle River that's on pipe. He doesn't like the way it sits. Told me to find a place in Venice or Fourchon to put it. I figure port eads is close enough.
I have to go when he goes anyway, so what does he care.

OK, well just get me a copy of the key and his schedule. I'll leave it just like I found it.

You think Plaquemines parish is the only place in this state that is corrupt.

Most vulerable to hurricanes on the entire coast? That is pretty strong blanket statement.

My company is doing some of the interior work. We have been onsite 6 weeks. It is a different beast working down there. The wind was brutal for 3 weeks and when the wind goes away the freaking gnats are terrible.

I think any hurricane that hits N.O. will probably hit Plaquemines Parish. Port Eads is vulnerable because it just sticks out there into the gulf with little buffer.

The rankings are as follows:
1. New Orleans, Louisiana
2. Lake Okeechobee, Florida
3. Florida Keys
4. Coastal Mississippi
5. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
6. Galveston/Houston, Texas
7. Cape Hatteras, North Carolina
8. Eastern Long Island, New York
9. Wilmington, North Carolina
10. Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida

I'm very familiar with the area. I was born in Venice and have lots of family born in Pilottown & even in Burwood (when they were still towns). With that said, yes it is vulnerable but so is anywhere on the gulf coast. So are the tons of million dollar condos in Alabama/Florida on the coast. If a marina was built right it should be able to withstand hurricanes down there. There have been structures that have withstood Katrina and even Camille years ago. Example, the southwest pass pilot station withstood Katrina with no major damages yet it sticks out in the gulf also.
We can go 30-40 years without a major (Cat 3 or better) huricane. So we shouldn't build anything in those areas because it has a risk of being hit?

Didn't say that in the statement. It's pretty well known how corrupt Plaquemines parish has been dating back to before the Perez years. It really seems like this project is a questionable use of tax dollars for the general public (and I say this with friends who lost Port Eads camps in Katrina).

Unless you live in Plaquemines parish it's not your tax dollars. So far it's FEMA money but it will end up the parish not the state supporting it.
And the Harbor Master was Buzzy Scarabin and he did not die during Katrina. He died around 2009. His brother Wayne and a deckhand disappeared and apparently drowned during Katrina trying to get from the old fuel dock, or a camp nearby, to the South Pass Lighthouse. Nungessar likes spin. And Buzzy had his own kingdom there for over twenty years. I know. I was there. And apparently my friends in this thread are in Dulac. I'm on Four Point Road as well. I sold my houseboat at Port Eads a year before Katrina. I parked it in the Port Eads Marina after building it around 1988 and sold it beginning of 2004.
I've in one day out of Port Eads shot a limit of ducks, caught a limit of specs and reds, shot a dozen marsh rabbits and a small spike buck (with #2 shot) and hauled a 250 hog out of a marsh island. And cooked a gumbo with a bit of all of it except the fish. And that gumbo didn't have a lick of grease in it.
I'm glad they are bringing it back but if it's not watched it will become another money grab for a small amount of people.
Read the book Rising Tide and learn all about Port Eads and how James Eads developed it which put New Orleans and the Mississippi River on the permanent map.

Yes. Will have fuel too!

It has had fuel and electricity for fifty years. It has water and a sewer treatment plant.
