Power Pole Instalation

How difficult is it to install a 10' power pole? If this is not a DIY project who do you recommend for the install in the Baton Rouge area?

It's not very hard plenty of videos on you tube . If you have a jack plate it makes the install a breeze.

No jack plate. Will I need to pull the motor?

You will have to mount thru your transom. Some people are comfortable drilling holes in their boats others aren't.
You will not have to remove the motor
So it's what you are comfortable doing. It's not that difficult take your time make yourself a pattern before drilling and use a good sealant like 5200 and you shouldn't have any issues.

If you do...remember to start your hole smaller and go bigger as needed.

Whoa whoa whoa Capt., just bc you have no jack plate does NOT mean you have to drill holes and bolt to transom. PP makes brackets that mount between your motor and the transom in the existing motor bolt holes. Don't go drilling any more holes in your transom, just find the right bracket for your motor.
You just remove motor, insert bracket, put motor back, though slight chance you need longer bolts. Works great

It's very possible what he needs to do is go to the power pole website and search the adapter plate section. It lists just about every boat made and what type of install plate you need for it.

If you want to do it yourself call PP and get the correct bracket for your boat and motor setup. No need to drill your transom.
It will be a 2 piece sandwich bracket for both sides of the transom/motor.
You will not need to pull the motor completely off, but remove the bolts one side at a time, supporting the foot of the motor transom mount with a jack, and loosen the other side.
After mounting the bracket, mount your pump, mount the PP, then run your lines. After filling with hydraulic fluid, hooking up the electrical, and attaching the hoses, the pump is self priming, simply press the up and down button a few times.
Most of the above is written in instructions with the PP in the box it's shipped in.
This all sounds like a lot,but a buddy and a few beers and it goes fairly quickly.

Thanks for the great info. I have a buddy that may have the means to pull the motor. That's my only concern. That sucker is heavy. I will check their web site and see what's right for my application.

I installed mine, was a piece of cake. I drilled and mounted to my transom as I got the 10' when it first came out and they were having problems with brackets breaking. Brackets are beefier now so won't be an issue so if nervous about drilling than pickup a bracket as others mentioned. Once pole mounted pump and wiring are a piece of cake.

My last install was using this method and it was a Yamie 225, at 500 lbs.
By all means if you have access to a motor stand/puller use it, but not 100% necessary.
One other point, use plenty of silicone on the through hull bolts in the transom.

P P P P Powerpole! I'll get mine when I get my BP settlement.

fyi, not sure how thick the brackets that go between the motor and the transom are, but keep in mine that you are putting the motor back an inch or more. Depending on your boat it could change the way it performs. Smaller <20 aluminum boats don't take much to make a difference.

It's going on a 22' Nautic Star. Maybe it's time for a jack plate as well. Ha. Lets see how that goes over with Mrs. Big E.
