I was playing around on Google Earth and noticed some buildings on Profit Island just north of BR in the Mississippi River. Anyone know anything about the island? Just curious.

I hunted there 20-25 years ago. It was split into about 4 different leases at that time. The buildings you see are on about a 1 acre hill, pretty high because the river covers the whole island except for that hill. The warehouse you see on it is pretty big and all the vehicles, equipment and campers were brought up there when the river started coming up

I was part of the investor group that purchased Profit Island in 1997 in a large timber package. We sold it about a year later. What do you want to know about it?

Don't know how many leases now, but a friends dad is a member there. Talked to him last year and they are having the same issues as other islands in the river, high water. Staying inundated is not good for the herd.

thats about the time my dude lost his lease. He tried to get it together to buy it himself but couldn’t pull it off. Owned Dealers wrecker at the time. Island was planted in cottonwood back then if I remember right. Oceans of cockleburrs in areas that weren’t planted in trees

Blond headed guy. Took me out to the island in a welded aluminum river boat.

He signed a letter of intent to purchase it. Then told me that he had found another tract that was easier for him to afford. So the deal fell apart.

Didn't have any trouble selling it later. I actually advertised it in the Washington Post and NY Times.

The cottonwood was reserved by Crown Vantage. Which barged the wood to their mill in St Francisville. They went BK a couple of years later.

Probably not the same guy. Vince was mostly grey headed, mid to late 50s at that time. I don’t know much about any details, he was a friend of my MIL. I kept his trucks and and tractors working and went hunting. Filthy with deer during hunting season considering the river ran all of the off during the spring and summer

Definitely the same guy. I remember him as blond hair. But I was thinking mid 40s or so. Anyhow, he owned a towing company and his name was Vince....

That island also had/has a freaking oil platform on it. They drilled a dry hole there and left the platform. Literally like having an oil rig on dry ground. Maybe 30 feet high or so.
