Public land hunting/camping trip in La

trying to plan something for this year to go out for a couple of days and camp and hunt. Like pack in a tent, find a good spot and stay there a couple nights. Hunt during the day. Primitive camping I guess is the term?
Anyway, hard to find info online, was thinking somewhere in Kisatchie. Would like the hunting to be bow only in whatever area I'm in.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Just want to make sure I don't break any rules and would like to talk to local ranger or green jeans to confirm.

You can primitive camp anywhere along the Azalea Trail, and that goes through some pretty country too.

You can't hike and camp on WMA's but you are correct, you can on Kisatchie, look into their specific regulations to stay legal.

I camped at kasachie in my early 20s with about 10 college buddies.. it was basically a Woodstock experience there was probably 100 people at that camp site and it was more of a party In the woods than hunting..

So theoretically, October 1 I could park somewhere in the Winn Ranger district, pack in with all my suit a few miles, make a camp and go hunt. As long as I have my licenses and tag(?) I should be good to go.
I've tried calling some of these ranger stations but never get an answer.

Yes. Can camp anywhere but if you make a fire you have to have a fire ring You can’t drive off-road unless it’s a marked road though.

You’re trying to do a Western hunt where it isn’t needed. Just set up a camp by your truck and walk out every night.
A more appropriate place for the type of hunt you describe would be in the mountains of Arkansas.

Almost all of the WMA's in Louisiana have primitive camping available in designated areas. Most of them are bow only for a good portion of the deer season with very little pressure.
Depending on time of year I would stay in the west portion of the state through about November then move east with the rut.
Louisiana has some fantastic public land hunting opportunities for people that like to primitive camp and hunt with a bow.

I would recommend Bogue Chitto NWR on the Pearl River if you have a boat to access it. I hunt it regularly during bow season and it is a beautiful place. Can camp along the river and then walk from river bank in and hunt while allowing you to fish on the river too. I would recommend launching at Walkaih in Mississippi and going upriver, but anywhere on the river is beautiful and full of pigs and deer.

Yes.
But be prepared to hike miles in only to find yourself surrounded by 4-wheelers when you wake up in the morning

honestly, there is no reason to do this in Kisatchie unless you just really want to
so many roads and 4-wheeler trails, its easy to access by truck anywhere
I'd just truck camp so you can be more mobile

Oh I know it isn't needed, but a buddy and I just want to check it out. We are planning/have partially planned a trip to Idaho next year and just want to do this as a sort of trial run, knowing the terrain and game will be nothing similar.

Didn't realize there were so many roads, would kind of make this pointless if we can't really get more than a couple miles away from a road or people...

thats going to be really difficult
not saying you can't get remote, but there is access everywhere in Kisatchie

Find you a WMA you like that has a primitive campground near some decent woods to hunt.
You could drive to the campground, unload, leave the truck locked for the weekend or whenever and walk to your hunting areas.
Westbay has some decent hunting near the Wolf Bay camping area.
Bodcau WMA has a few campgrounds with hunting near by..

It’d be a good trial run. If you can afford the NR license, try some of these Arky wilderness areas. You’ll be in mountains and it’ll be better prep for Western hunting.

There is a wilderness area in Kisatchie. No wheeled vehicles at all not even a wheeled cart to drag your deer out
