Anyone have any recommended places to quail hunt in South LA. I know Covey Rise, but went to a place in Tylertown MS about 10 years ago. Not sure if they are still operational. Was a good price and a nice land.

Tylertown is good. Deep south quail hunts i believe is the name. Know several people that go once a month, they love it. Have pheasant also

Longleaf Plantation is a first class operation in Lumberton, MS. Never had a bad time there.

2 places close to tylertown, one in tylertown that I do not know too much about, the second is in Jayess which is 15 min north of tylertown and that is Thornhill shooting preserve, I have been shooting with him several times, and while it is not the "lodge" experience the shooting is fantastic, he uses much larger birds and places them "in the woods" instead of along pastures, Wayne provides some good comedy and puts on a great shoot, comes out to right at $10/bird and that includes cleaning
give Wayne a call at (601)248-0245, tell him his hog head cheese buddy sent you to him

I'm sure the few coveys that were there have been decimated by now.

I can’t speak for anywhere else but on my little slice of redneck heaven in south MS the wild quail are doing very well. I see dozens in the stand and usually jump a covey walking in.
Katrina did a number on our canopy and I think it really helped them out, only thing I can think as we never saw them before the storm.

I have not seen any on my place, but my neighbors have, would love to have a hunt-able population build

kill all the coyote, fox, bobcat, coon, opossum and fire ants and you are well on your way

Have only seen one coyote in the past decade on our property and it was a scraggly young male that was promptly shot. Never seen a fox out there but I assume we have a couple. That said we do have a couple bobcats and a small army of coons. Definitely fireants. I’d love to know what encouraged the quail numbers to grow so I could sustain it, but like I said the only thing I can attribute it to was a massive hurricane knocking down tons of mature timber all at once, letting the undergrowth come in.

I know it's more expensive than other places but their birds fly better than any other place I have been and their dogs are very good. I prefer going because you know what you're getting and have never had a bad experience.

armadillos, hogs, hawks, take a huge toll as well perhaps more than the other threats..... Limit Johnson grass, they need the native grasses/seeds to forage in light dirt - where they don't get too exposed getting out to feed.... semi annual disking on edges of likely cover...... if goat weed grows anywhere - LEAVE IT BE.....

Am I allowed to bring my own dog to Covey Rise or any of these other places? I’m itching to get on some quail with mine
