So I need to put a light bar on the front of the boat for frogging, duck hunting etc. The problem is I dont want it there full time due to the fact that I fish from the front of boat a lot and it will be in the way and I dont want it to get damaged.
Any recommendations?

Tia

Just get some of those magnetic bases from tractor supply that are for exactly what you want to do. They're in the truck/lightbar section.

Mount a couple of small plates of painted steel on the assumably aluminum/ glass hull and voila, removable light bar...?

Hence "painted!"

You and your comment are why this subforum is a shining light on this dump: I knew it was gonna be said, but you said it without being a dick.

Yes, dissimilar metals are a problem, but other than rivnuts, or a couple of other more complex options I dunno? Perhaps the OP should state his desire to get "complex" with it? Hell I'll break out the harbor freight tig welder if it gets complicated!

Either way, back when go-lights first came out, I did exactly what my 1st post said for over a year & a half and never had any problems.

My disclaimer is that I could be wrong, because I frequently am- like, "every-day-multiple-times-a-day" frequently.

Even with it being painted I think it will still eventually cause galvanic corrosion. If not it would be a nice easy solution.

Like I said: I went almost 2 years doing it with no problems, but no idea about the next owner.

I digress.

Other problem is DWLF will issue you a ticket if it’s mounted on the bow and you use it. $50 fine unless the law has changed since 2017.

do yourself a favor and just get a hardhat light or you can get a good led headlight off amazon for $20 that will do what u want.
fixed lightbars are not good for frogging. all they do is pizz off other boats off because you blind them. just like the morons with them bright truck headlights.

Hold on, it is illegal to run at night with a bow mounted light? Like in the river or lake on the way to hunting blind?

Yea that what I am thinking, just drill and tap then if I can find aluminum hex head set screws just put those in the holes so it is still flush.

I bought a light bar from tractor supply, mounted it on my 4 wheeler. Sold my 4 wheeler and took that baby off and mounted it on my boat. Thing always turns on always works, never remove it, it sits out in the elements. It works great running the river at night or early in the morning, but it isnt great for frogging. If it pivoted easily it would be great.

If you’re wanting to do a removal factor or pivot, get a piece of starboard, get a rare earth magnet, bore out most of the starboard, glue the magnet in place.

Yes it is. I got a ticket for it 2 years ago and was pissed because everyone runs the bow light bars it seems. I called in to ask wtf and they said it’s because it causes other boater problems. Also, that they can’t see your red/green Nav lights on bow.

I was in the way to the duck blind when I got my ticket.

I would think you could find a rubber or plastic bracket to place between the bar bracket and boat to prevent the metal to metal contact?

I used a RAM mount for mine. Mounted the ball to the bow in an out of the way spot. I remove mine whenever not in use and store in a hatch.

100% illegal and dangerous for people around you. They blind oncoming boaters and wash out your forward navigation lights making it almost impossible for other people to tell which direction you're heading. They are nothing like headlights on a car. They do not work the same way and should not be used as head lights.

Nothing wrong with using them as spreader lights but please do the people around you a favor and don't use them while running.
