Ruger LC9 vs. S&W SD40VE

I had someone ask me about trading my Ruger LC9 for the S&W SD40VE. They both were bought around the same time (less than a year ago), had less than 25 rounds through them. I only have the Ruger, 30ish rounds of range ammo and a full box of Critical Defense, 1 mag, the case and that is it. He is offering the S&W with 6 mags, the case and that is it. Is this a good trade? Fairly even? Bad?

i don't think i would trade any 9mm for a 40, especially a S&W that isn't an M&P. but thats just me

Thanks for your opinion. That is what I am asking...I am clueless on these guns.

What will you be using this gun for? These two pistols have different purposes.
Personally I would keep the Ruger.

+1. The LC9 is intended as a carry pistol whereas the SD is a full sized gun.
In my own opinion, the SD has a horrible factory trigger and is not very desirable to most gun guys. Unless you are in a pinch and don't ever carry concealed, it's not a good trade.

SD40 is just a warmed over Sigma.

I've seen a lot of Sigmas having malfunctions at the range. One step up from a Hi-Pernt IMO.
I've rarely seen a Ruger with issues. If one has problems, it's usually operator error.

This fine piece is the lowest priced pistola de plastico in the S&W lineup. You might remember some similar looks from their Sigma range of inexpensively priced pistols. Having stripped both guns, I can tell you that the guts look mostly the same between the two. And having shot both of them, I can tell you that the trigger woes the Sigma suffered continue with the SD9 VE.

This is what I have been reading about this gun. Something like 8lbs of pressure on the pull. I am considering buying this gun in a few days and this has been the biggest complaint I have seen.

Run away as fast as you can. Reconsider friendship since he is obviously trying to screw you.

Get a Ruger 9E instead. It is mechanically-identical to the superior Ruger SR9 but costs less to manufacturer and only comes with one mag. You can find them for around $350.

This X 100! Keep your Ruger. I owned one of these and sold it real fast.
