Sabiki rigs for Speckled Trout bait

Anyone have luck with these in the bays or the sound? Can you catch croakers, or any other trout bait?

We tip them with shrimp and catch croakers, but it can be a clusterfrick with that many hooks.
I would recommend making your own two hook sabaki style rig with bream hooks and tip with shrimp.

not if you have one of these. The hooks and weight goes inside and store inside the tube rod and you can cast the shite out of them without worrying about tangles and whatnot. gamechanger

never used them inshore but offshore they are a clusterfrick even with the bigger hooks so I'd imagine it's worse inshore
That being said, they work like a boss offshore

where would you go to target croakers?

I find the cluster frick happens when you are taking bait off. Never have a problem casting, just got to be aware of everyone. I do like those rods though, sure beats throwing the damn things away after every use.

flip em like a catfish right into the livewell. Those rods make it MUCH easier to cast as well.

I guess that should have been part of my OP. Googling I see that some catch off piers, other structures, even oyster reefs. Looks like they catch croakers near or on the bottom.

i catch them randomly all the time but have never targeted them

Piers in shallow tidal water. Wait until you catch 5 baby hardheads on a sabiki, barrels of fun

I caught 3 or 4 tiny ones in my 6' cast net last weekend and really though about just throwing the whole thing in the garbage

go to the south side of the L&N bridge and fish on the bottom with small hooks tipped with pieces of shrimp.
croaker is good eating!
