Demo'd the 61" Scag Cheetah 31hp Kawasaki and the 61" Ferris 2500 with 24hp Yanmar diesel and cant decide which one to purchase. I will be making the final decision later today.

I really love the full suspension on the Ferris as I will be mowing 10 acres of pasture and it will help. The Scag is a fast heavy beast that is a little rougher ride but does have the suspension operator platform. The diesel seems like a little more maintenance but might just run forever.
Looking for anyone's thoughts or feedback on these two mowers.

I vote Scag just because of the name. I dont know much about Ferris but I also have never heard anything bad about them either.

We need a report on this later- 10 acres of pasture with potentailly a gas zero turn.

I'm not saying it won't- just curious as to how it turns out.

Remember- this is something designed to cut grass from 1" to say 3.5" tall. You keep your pastures that closely clipped?

I don't see any problems.

Flat relatively smooth pasture. Mower runs up to 5" which is what i set it at during demo. Why would i try and cut it 1.5-3"?
I honestly have no use for a tractor at this time. Or a good reason to spend that kind of money on one

I have a Kubota ZD326 (Diesel) and it's a beast. I'm happy with it; have had it about 2 1/2 years.

We have 2 scags at work. They dont cut well at all. The big heavy decks are unforgiving to uneven land and one of them stays in the shop at all times. Would not recomend

The deck will probably be the first thing that need replacing. How do the decks compare?

I knew it wouldn't be long before this turned into a deck measuring contest.

Each one is a demo with 100 hrs. The ferris diesel is normally around 11,5 and he will sell it as new w/warranty for 8800 since its also end of year. Same thing on the Scag but for 8600 normally 9999.

Thought about the pull mowers behind the four wheelers but heard nothing but awful things about the motors and shitty decks. Not sure a gang reel would work to great on taller stuff.

As far as the decks they are both very similar and I think the Ferris had a rubber striper on the back.

Going test drive them both again right now and make a decision.

If you want more info than you are prepared for, go to Lawnsite.com

Both are great mowers. Post pics when you pick.

Man, I am so confused- you have 10 Acres...but no need for a tractor?

Fence posts need driving, dirt needs to be moved, place needs to be disked, sprayed, etc.

Hell, I have 2 acres and bought a BX Kubota so I could build dirtbike jumps for my son and have pallet forks to move stuff around my shop with.

This is on top of the 3 other tractors we have for our pastures. I tried my damndest to talk myself into a zero turn, but just couldn't do it.

Ferris is the better brand and then add the diesel factor in and it's a no brainer
