I won a Blackout DB15 AR last week and want to use it for night hunting for pigs. What is a good recommendation for a Thermal that won't break the bank. The gun shop showed me an ATN but wasn't sure what may be the right choice for this gun. Budget is under $1K. Any help would be appreciated.

Any thermal under 1K isn't going to be worth a damn. If you can push you budget to 2500 you can get a way better thermal. Go to outdoorlegacygear.com and look at what they sell. They review all the stuff they sell and are very knowledgeable on thermals.

That’s who I used and ended up with a Thermion 2 XP50. Thermion is pretty good so I wonder if they have something around that $2500 to $2000 dollar mark.

I have the ATN Thor 4 and it hasn't let me down.

AGM Rattler is around 1k and works fine as long as you’re shooting within 100 yards.

I can clearly tell pigs from deer.

Don’t get the ATN Thor LT. I have one and it’s not that good. Would spend some extra money to get a better one.

There are some great options for within 1-150 yards. The tech is only getting better and cheaper.

I've been trying to find something that I can id out to 6-700 yards but on a budget. I've been leaning towards a sniper hog IR light with a digital night vision for $12-1400 with a range finder built in...it is amazing how cheap this stuff is.

In about 3 years I think thermals will rival that spec in that budget, I just need to get on these hogs and yotes now. I am hoping to get on that this winter.

If you are just hunting them over a feeder, I'd check out AGM. If you are trying to spot and stalk in big fields and stuff, I'd check out Pulsar and up my budget to 3k plus.

Like you, I put together an AR 15 in 300 Blackout for night hunting hogs. I didn't want to spend the money needed to by a thermal. I came across a good price on an ATN X-Sight 3-15X night vision scope. I've been satisfied w/ the gun, cartridge and scope. The infrared illuminator that came w/ it isn't very powerful (effective range 100 yds or less) so I use a different one that doubles the range.

Can you elaborate?

I’m looking for some shoot pigs at 50 yards under a feeder

Rattler in 384 is great, iray bolt as well. I hear great things on the hogsters as well. 50 yards you have a ton of options at the $2k option.

Sig is pretty good. I would buy pulsar. But sig has a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. Thats hard to compete with

I second the ATN Thor 4 when you are on a budget, mine has been fine for 5 years. Not gonna ID much over 300 yards but for the price it has been great.

Definitely go thermal, I have Xsight night vision and a thermal....we always end up fighting over the thermal.

I have been pleased with the sightmark wraith digital night vision. Didn’t break the bank at $500 and I have killed many hogs with it. Can see very clearly to 200 yds. Biggest downside is the battery life as I have an older one without the built in rechargeable battery pack. I plan to upgrade my IR light to one of the offerings by sniper hog.

I already had this flashlight so I switched to it. This light gives me 200 yard capability. This light has 4 different bulbs (red, green, white and IR) that are easy to change. I actually have 2 of these lights. On the first one, the pressure switch broke after a few months. I e-mailed the manufacturer asking for a replacement pressure switch, but they instead sent me a complete second light. I also have the more powerful Lumenshooter but I've only used w/ the green light in the backyard.

I have a thermion xp50. It works great.
Tried ATN wasn’t impressed. Like anything else, you get what you pay for.

Palmetto state has a sightmark wraith night vision with the infrared light on clearance right now for $299. Not the best but good to start with on a budget.
