I am gonna have to recarpet my aluminum boat sometime in the next year or 2. However, I've been looking for alternatives and it appears that I can have SeaDek installed on an aluminum boat. Does anyone have experience with it? Between me and my friend we probably spend 60 days on the water and carpet is a B****.
Pros/cons is it worth it? from looking at their website it seems like it will cost me around $2500 - $3000 to get it done? I'm thinking worth it even though i don't really want to spend that much.

a paint-on coating would be less maintenance

I don't have any experience where it's covered the entire floor of boat but it is nice on top of a casting or poling platform. I have heard that it can be a pain to clean and will likely deteriotiate if stored directly exposed to sun.
Have you looked at SafeFloor?

I'm open to all materials, there just isn't a whole lot of information out there. Maybe i'm not looking in the right places (can't watch youtube at work).
Prolly best just to do the platforms to save money
The boat is stored underneath a carport with zero sunlight hitting it.
I ain't tryin to impress the ladies so a little stain on it ain't the end of the world.

Have you searched TheHullTruth?
SeaDek may end up being the best but there are alot of options and competition for that market now.

Try out hydroturf, it is a lot cheaper and has many different colors.

SEADEK will send you the templet material that can be sent back to them and they will cut it out. Prep is the most time consuming and necessary work you will do. D/A sander with plenty of sheets of 80g sand paper will be needed.

I've had good luck and no complaints with Hydroturf so far with mine going on a year. Was actually surprised how easy it cleaned up.

yeah i've read a few things on there. Most seem to be positive about the seadek but does seem there are cheaper options that are same similar product.
The pros seem to outweigh the negatives. Thanks guys and gals. I'll post a picture when I get around to doing it in a couple of years

When I ordered my boat, I had “every flat surface” covered with hydroturf. Idk how seadek does in the hottest summer days, but the hydroturf is legit. Even on the hottest days, you can stand barefoot on it. I’ve had my boat for 3 years and it doesn’t show any signs of wear, but I store it in a shed. They say if you store it where the sun hits it everyday, it doesn’t last long at all. I know it’s cheaper than seadek too. My boat is 18 foot long plus a hunt deck and my floor, catwalks, front deck, back deck and hunt deck have it and they charged me $800 for material and labor.

Do yourself a favor and also check out Gulf South Aqua Traction. He has done several of my buddies Rockets and they all look good.

I've had SeaDek on my bay boat for two summers and it is a very cool surface. It shows a little wear, but not much. Fish blood, slime, mud, etc require a some scrubbing but overall the clean up is easy.
I would do it again.

I have had my seadek in for 5 years, a couple of burn holes, but mostly damage from the neighborhood cats sharpening their claws on it. It is tough stuff and feels great on bare feet.

I used Hydroturf.. It was fairly easy to work with and looks great.
I used a chemical stripper to clean off all of the old glue. Klean Strip from Home Depot. I used a sheet rock blade to scrap off the mix and a smaller putty knife for the tight spots. I also brought to car wash to clean the surface after I stripped.
Get some 3M spray adhesive in the silver can and purchase the Hydroturf with the adhesive backing. Cut the turf to fit, remove the backing, spray the adhesive and stick to the floor. I did it by myself but wished I had help. If your crooked on your placement that adhesive is unforgiving.LOL
