For your typical inshore fishing for specs/reds/drum/etc....do you prefer a 3000 or 4000 series? And why? Looking to upgrade.

3000 is more fun....4000 if you are targeting some big fish. If just fishing the marsh, 3000 is plenty. If you are fishing the sounds or Venice, probably a 4000

I always prefer the smaller reels with some 30lb braid
3000 seems to have a better balance in my hand which makes it much easier to fish with all day especially if you're fishing popping corks. The only disadvantage I see is line capacity, but if you go with braid, that's not an issue.

3000. I wouldn't get a 4000 unless you are targeting bull reds all the time

3000, but i have both. i use the 4000 when targeting big reds and/or drum

3000. You don't need to go any bigger with the upgraded drags that Shimano has now. I have a 3000 and my next will be 2500 or smaller. You don't need the extra bulk and they hold more power pro than you will need in an inshore situation.

I just bought a Falcon Coastal at Cabelas last night for 89.99. They look great and I've always enjoyed Falcon products.
7' M action. "Gulf Popper" I think is what it's called.

It such a personal choice. If you're looking to flat out overpower your target, go with the 4000. I like the 3000, but prefer the 2500. I have both. I just prefer lighter gear all around. I just put together a stradic CI4+ 1000 setup for redfish. Can't wait to try it.

Is it true that 2500's and 3000's are the same reel, the 3000's just have more line capacity?

I would think the spool is actually larger, but idk

Definitely true in previous models. Not sure about the FK.

Drag, gear ratio and line per retrieve are identical.

Wont find a better rod for the price. Still use an original model when they first came out over 10 yrs ago. Bought a TFO spinning rod in that price range that I like a lot as well.

i have a few 2500's and a few 3000's all on St Croix rods. I have a camp in Golden Meadow. Those rods are all i need for the marsh.
