Shooting bow in backyard?

Is there any reason I shouldnt shoot my bow in my backyard? I can really only get about a 30 yard shot, but as long as I have a backstop and make sure I'm not shooting over the fence I should be good huh?

I shoot in my back yard....anything could happen i guess but I try to be as safe as possible. I shoot at my block as well as 3d targets and I also set up a piece of plywood behind the targets.

My 8 and 9 year old daughters shoot their bows in the back yard.. I don't see a problem with it..

As long as your backyard doesnt butt up to someone elses backyard/home I dont see a problem here. If it does, I'd probably ask the neighbor if they are cool with it.

I've only ever practiced in my yard. But the background was 100 yds or so of field before a building. I lost some arrows in that field too

I've always shot in my backyard but there's nothing behind me for a while. I use my barn as a backstop because I lost a lot of arrows when I started and now my wife is shooting and hits the barn quite often. I have a shite load of styrofoam built up behind the target so it doesn't stick through the wall or break an arrow.

I shoot in my backyard as well. Unless you shoot about 5 ft off of target, you should be good.

if you are in a neighborhood, think long and hard about what is behind the fence you are counting on for your backstop. everyone misses once in a while, even if it's due to something like fletching breaking on release, string breaks, deflections off of the ground or other arrows in the target, etc, etc, etc.
i used to shoot in the backyard with my brother, and we moved the target to right in front of the shed so that it provided a better backdrop than the board fence. despite protests from my brother that he "never misses the target", he put an arrow into the shed after about 5 shots.

I did. I just aimed it towards the rear of mine and the neighbors property. If you shoot from an angle (stand) It shouldn't be a problem anyway.

I used to shoot at my old house because I was in a tight neighborhood. Stuck one right through the siding and into the baseplate of the house. I'd still shoot at something solid. They will go through a fence.
At my new house, I put my trash cans behind the target

I have always shot in backyard. I when shooting field tips the day after tuning my broadheads and shooting them, I did have a pass through on my layered foam block that continued to go completely through the wood fence 5 feet behind the target and bury in the neighbors flower bed.
If you are really concerned shoot from elevation causing any misses to go into the ground by the target.

I agree with this. I don't feel very safe shooting in my backyard most of the time. I usually drive a few minutes to an open field to shoot. Plus, I can get a lot more yardage outside if my backyard to practice out to 60 yards plus.
About 10 years ago, I had an arrow explode upon shooting it out if my bow. We often shoot in my dad's big warehouse. I guess the arrow had a small crack or something it, because it exploded upon releasing from the bow and part of it ricocheted into the roof. Luckily it didn't go through my arm. I've always been wary of my surroundings since then. I check my arrows after every round too.

I always shot in my backyard, with my shop and shop door as a backstop. Hit both more than once, but never let an arrow get away.
I think Alx almost hit a lawyer once. Arrow went right thru backyard fence into the lawyer's backyard while he was outside. Pretty scary.

I shoot in my backyard.
But I have a 2' thick concrete wall as a backdrop, and if I shoot over that, it's just a church behind, so if I take out a few from the church, no biggie

Shoot from an elevated platform or ladder if you feel uncomfortable. If you butt up to anyone's property I wouldnt based off the fact that anything can happen. I've drawn back and hit the backwall too hard triggering my release launching my arrow out of sight.
