We used to catch a lot with slat traps. When there was one, it was chock-a-block full. We also used hoop nets and caught well in them, not AS MANY per checking but bigger ones.
This was in a bayou by the way and we did use cheese from Champlin Net Co.

i am fixing to buy a few more nets. i lost three last year in the mississippi at thompson creek. not sure what happened but they vanished.
i usually use hoop nets for big rivers and traps for small rivers.
is that the one out of lafayette?

I don't catfish much, but the most success I've ever had was with hoopnets. Caught about 1200 pounds of catfish in three trips.

Any one know of somewhere else to buy them? Individual maybe?

We get our nets from Champlain also. The knives they sell are awesome. We use the hoops on the Red. Usually do pretty good. We get our cheese bait from a fireman my dad knows at Bossier

I love trot lines, limb lines and yoyos. Nothing like the tug of a big un on a trot line!
