What a pain n the arse!
1. They're noisy
2. It automatically blocks half if the window. You need to pick your blind spots

I hate any stand which requires me to stab my gun through a slot to shoot. You can only imagine how much one with windows pisses me off 
At what point in history did everybody start putting anti-stand up and shoot devices on deer stands????

Yea, they are horrible.

Does plexiglass reflect sunlight new or maybe when it clouds up after age?

We used a piano hinge and a rope tied to the corners of the windows and ran through a hole in the wall of the box. Had a loop tied in the rope on the inside and you'd just pull the rope to open the window and hang the loop on a screw.
Worked well. And you can make the windows as big as you want

I have them on all my blinds and they are far superrior to hinged windows. They are silent, tinted and you can get them any size. Other hunters at our lease switched to them after hunting out of my blinds.

And if they aren't built with enough space in the slots they tend to stick when the wood swells. Then you make alot of noise trying to get them open. We have one that you need a small tool box to open and it's one our better spots. Don't use string if your windows are hinged. You'll have some dingbat pull one the string only to open the window and after a couple of pulls the string frays and the window is shut until you can repair it. What really sucks is when you drive 7 hrs to the camp and climb in a stand before daylight only to find one of local members broke the string and then didn't fix it.

what i did to my box stand was when i cut out the slots, i turned around and used them as frames for the plexi.
i bought plexi for 3cents an sq. inch. cut me some small wood pieces and screwed them to the frame acting as glass holders.
then of course as others did, hinge it and use a screw/string to tie them up when you want it open.
it sure the hell is a lot warmer, as opposed to having open slots. makes no sense to freeze your arse off for nothing.
might as well do it right and not half assed after you put all that work in....

I built one last summer and did it that way.Works great....I use a stand my dad built a few years ago that has aluminum mobile home windows he got on the cheap...Works great until its blow freezing then you cant get them open...
