just a heads up for anyone that likes them, the rer are discontinued and no longer for sale. 2020 was the last year they made them, so if you want one you better buy a semi new used one and take good care of it.

i was hoping to buy a brand new turtle version one for my dad but they stopped making those in 2019. its the only thing he can handle and turn with him being fairly weak and 80 yrs old.

and no he cant do zero turn, he is way too weak and has no good balance any more. if he had a zero turn, i would have to go pick him up off the ground, or the bushes, every time he had to turned it

I don’t wish this on your dad, but that statement and the picture in my head of an old guy falling in the bushes is hilarious!

The rear engine mowers as of late were hunks of shite. My local outdoor power guy quit selling 4 years ago because of too many issues and shitty customer service.

Got one about 15 years ago and it fell apart. They were great at one time though.

My dad is 90 and still mows on what's maybe a 30 year old Craftsman. Every year we take in in for some kind of repair, but it's always somewhere between $60 and $200, so he'll get it fixed.. If it finally dies I'm going to recommend letting someone else do it. He doesn't need to buy another one.

ETA:
A couple of years ago, he got stuck in the ditch, and I had to pull him out with his truck. That was on the old tractor style Craftsman. He doesn't need to get near a zero turn.

Yeah he's great! I emailed him for some advice at one time.

He said the Snapper Rear Engine Riders will continue to be made fro what he's hearing. Just having trouble getting parts from overseas.

If he's in that bad of shape I think I'd be paying someone to cut it for him if I couldn't.

They will probably make them when things get back to normal if there is a market and enough profit.

If you are snapper would you make a unit with less margin along with lower demand or a unit such as a zero turn with more demand along with better margins?

briggs and stratton bought them out and started fricking with the design like making the rear axle have a groove cut in it so instead of a 3/4" solid steel rod, they cut a groove in it so it has a weak spot only 1/2" thick there so guess what, they had a shite ton snapping axles and other stupid shite like that

they had so many issues the dealers stopped buying them to sell and people who did buy them had nothing but problems with them.

had they left the original design alone it wouldnt have cost 1 penny more to make the mower but they wouldnt have had so many issues.

the one "good" design change was to make the turtle version so you slide onto the mower rather then have to straddle over the center pipe climbing on it like a horse. the problem is they were greedy and didnt want the mowers to last you 30 years as the original design did. they changed things, to make them break, and so you would need to buy a new mower after the warranty was done. but they screwed up and they had tons of mowers breaking while still under warranty, to the point dealers wouldnt touch them, and dealers warned customers to not buy them. the 3 or 4 dealers i called warned me not to buy them. at this point B&S is such a big company they may not bother with them and could just write the snapper RER line off on an expense sheet somewhere and never bring it back

this is the only good design update, the turtle version
