Rockbridge is a basically a trout farm. Everything is stocked from the fish hatchery they have on the property.
The have two sections: catch and release and catch and keep.
The catch and release is 135 per day
Catch and keep is $4 per live weight but they clean them (filet or gutted)
We wanted to bring some home with us so we did catch and keep.
The fish are just what you want for a kid just getting into fly fishing: big and dumb
We fished sat morning, came in for lunch and drop some fish off to clean and the. Fished for a couple more hours before heading home.
The morning we had 8 fish that weighed 19 lbs.
Afternoon was a little better as my son was getting the hang of the fly rod 11 fish 29 lbs.
This is the river right behind the old mill in the center of the pic is a dark spot in the water. That’s all trout. All 2-6 lbs trout. We didn’t fish there. Went way downstream with less pressure.

Sounds like the perfect kind of trip for a father and son! Congrats on spending some special time with your son! He'll remember that forever!

That's the area of the country I was born and raised in. Glad you enjoyed the trout fishing.

Nice. Now that he’s got the hang of it, take him to Dry Run Creek in Arkansas. It’s a public, catch and release and kids only stream. Nice campground right across the road. Take a big net.

Nice trip! It is a beautiful place indeed. Went there for lunch during spring turkey season and enjoyed their big hummingbird population.

I have a 15 YO who would enjoy the hell out of this! Maybe stop on the way back and hit Toledo Bend for some Sac Aux Lait.

Thanks everyone. He really did have a great time. He’s really gotten into fishing the last couple of months. He’s enjoyed fishing but now it’s consuming him.
But yes, he’s been fly fishing twice now. This trip and one this spring at Bass pro’s Dogwood Canyon.
I was telling him that he better not get used to it because these are probably two of the best fishing trips he may ever experience Fly fishing in freshwater.
Before we got to fish he was a little aggravated that I wouldn't let him bring his spinning rod. Good thing I didn’t as now he is hooked.

Rockbridge is great but quit telling people. We don’t need them finding out.
