I’m thinking the 2500 is too smal for the 28-32 inch redfish
The 2500 will be more than enough for those sized reds. I've got a 2500 Stradic fk and a C3000 sized Stradic fl (2500 size body with 3000 size spool) and have had no issues with slot-just over slot reds.

twelve pound test line for distance

I had a guided redfish trip scheduled in Louisiana as a gift for my dad. It got cancelled due to Michael (hitting us, not them) but I had talked to the guide to see if I wanted to take my own gear and didn't know if it would be enough. He swore up and down he catches bulls on 1500 reels all day long. "Ya jus let the rahd fight'em".
Not entirely sure I buy that but it's absolutely enough for the 30" range. I've caught several that size on 2500s while fishing for slots and getting spooled wasn't even a question. I really don't enjoy catching fish on oversized tackle.

Know anything about that rod? I usually hate combos, but if that rod is good, that's a screaming deal and one a guy could buy multiple of to have around for larger groups.
This is the same combo:
Daiwa BG inshore combo
The rods don't match the description of any of their other rods I could find so I assume they're pretty inexpensive rods. The negative reviews on the combos across the internet mention rod issues for the most part. For a cheap inshore setup though, I'd probably give one a shot and worst case I'm still left with the BG.

I mean if you are concerned about distance then switch to braid. 20-30lb.
I keep mono on my bait casting rods I use for plugs but spinning rods all get braid for bottom fishing and corks.

It's absolutely doable in the marsh with braided line. I'd still recommend a 3000 size but 1500 can be fun in the right conditions.

It’s definitely a combo only rod and not one from their regular lineup. I checked the weight recs on mine and it says 1/8 to 3/4 oz. No way I’d throw 3/4 oz with it unless it’s just a gentle heave but it’s fine on the lighter end. Like I said, I fish it in a kayak and I might switch to it from a $240 Avid and I’m never thinking “oh, I’ve got to use the crappy one”. I assume it’ll snap or the guides will give out and I’ll replace it but it’s 2-3 years old and I haven’t felt the need to yet. It’s about free at that price anyway; I don’t think BGs are $100 any more.

7'6" in the best medium fast rod you can afford and then the best reel. I have a pair of steadies that are over ten years old that put the time in....Just lube and clean and go from there....

Agree there. This is the first one I've bought since I was a teen.
I try to buy all my stuff from a locally owned tackle shop; known the owner for years. I told him I wanted a decent loaner and he pointed me to the Daiwa combo. I gave him the stink-eye and he laughed and said "Trust me. If you don't like it, bring it back and I'll sell it used, but I'm not worried about doing that." Unless I got a unicorn, the rod is at least Ugly Stik level. Cork handles, 1 piece; it's not an Avid but it's not garbage and the reel led me to three (and counting) more Daiwa reel purchases for this Shimano snob.

I've been using a Daiwa BG and a 7ft med dobyns fury this past year and have really liked it. Can be had for $200-250 depending on the current deals. Think I got the dobyns for $100 during one of academy's rod sales.

20-30 pound line is great for horsing fish in. I prefer the play.

Braided line is thinnner diameter. More line capacity and further casting than Mono or Flouro. The fact that it's higher breaking strength is really just an added benefit.

Looking for like a 2500spinning reel for specks up to bull reds. I’m looking at Penn Spinfisher or Shimano Stradic but open to other ideas.
Also need a 7 ‘ rod recommendation.
Budget is $300. Thanks
I will give suggestions in your budget:
Reel: Shimano Sedona FI Spinning Reel Cabelas's $80
Rod: Halo Fishing KS II Elite Spinning Rod - 810722021371 Cabela's $170

Thanks for all the ideas. I pulled the trigger on a Penn Spinfisher IV 3500 and 7’ medium action Coastal Inshore spinning rod. The Shimano Stradic put me too far over budget. Love my Shimanos but the Stradic isn’t made specifically for saltwater so will give the Penn a shot.

So put on a light leader and have fun.
Using braid as the mainline has more pros than mono.

Wow, so 2 pages of responses and you end up with a reel that literally no one suggested and a completely different size than asked about. Good luck throwing that 3500 all day at specks. You'll sleep good that night. Daiwa and Shimano own the reel market currently. China Penn is terrible.

He did ask for comments on 2 reels specifically and OB does what OB does and offer up opinions on a bunch of different reels.

Make sure that you wash your Spinfisher with fresh water after each use even though the reel is sealed. I have never owned a Falcon spinning rod, but I might in the future. Some people think that it is hard lift fish into the boat with that particullar rod; I hope that is not an issue for you.

Also, even though OP did in fact ask about the SF, literally no one agreed that it was a good choice, especially over the Stradic. The only person who remotely mentioned the SF ultimately suggested the battle.

I thanked all for their ideas which not alot of OP’s do.
I took alot of the advice of Saskwatch who among other things said do a search of entire forum for prior similar requests. He suggested the exact rod as did many others in other threads.
In the end the penn won over the Stradic because of price and equal reviews and I went and physically checked both out and the penn was my preference. I also found both online. And the penn 3500 is alot smaller than you would think. Then Field and stream and Academy and other places did not have my reel and pole choices both in stock so had to go to Amazon. And saved $30+
Sorry to those whose feelings were hurt. My advice to others isn’t always the winner too and life goes on.
