Recently transplanted to OKC and got some weird looks when I talked about crushing some grey ducks. They never heard that term before up here...

So where does this term end? I know south and central LA use the term grey duck, and some people in NWLA do for sure, but I'm uncertain out of that range. Any landmass folks, bama folks, ar-kansans or others care to chime in?

I say grey ducks around the camp and my redneck/coonass friends.

I say gadwall at the DU banquet while I sip my sherry.

true story: I went to buy decoys and couldn't find "grey ducks" anywhere because that's all I had ever called them.

Squealer is referenced to a Mexican Squealer aka tree duck. And no it's not a whistler.

When referring to a Wood Duck its better to go with Woodie.

While hunting the South Platte River in Colorado I heard a local say they shot a bunch of Gaddy's and Penny's. Wasn't sure how to feel about it at the time. But my friends and I still get a good laugh about that when we shoot Grey's and Pintail's together.

The ultimate circular, never ending argument of the OB. I was trying to ignore it.

I had heard a few different names for various ducks growing up, but it wasn't until college that I met people from Avoyelles Parish. Still don't have a freakin clue what they're talking about, but they seem to have an alternate name for just about every creature on earth.

"Hey, theres a group of teal."

"Sure is, dasa nice group of Sarcelle"

"Tha frick? Just shoot at the little fast sumbitch over the decoys"

"You talkin bout tha leurre?"

"...Jesus."

Grey = Gadwall
Hollywood = Spoonbill
Dos Gris = Scaup/Ringneck (I know some will call them Blackjacks, but they're all the same to me)
Woodie = Wood Duck
Green Head = Mallard
Cans = Canvasbacks
Don't Shoot = Coot
