What is the understory vegetation and terrian like in the WMA? Thistlewaithe or more like Sherburne? I have not been to this one and am thinking of walking around looking for pigs.

A lot of it looks like one of the hardest walks you'll ever encounter. Think ridge and swale, but wetter, softer and veggier.

Are you planning on going in by boat?

There are 3 main slough with higher ridge in-between. thick and muddy.

Would Recommend bringing a 4 wheeler to get around.

I have a boat. I planned on walking in from the East off Old River LN. Exploring. Is it basically standing water everywhere besides ridges?

I have to think, with all the camps along there, that area gets lots of traffic. No experience there though.

Richard Yancey WMA if you’re stalking pigs, more pork in those woods than Spring Bayou.

Like AlxTgr, said there are a lot of camps that hunt that area on the weekends. You should be able ok during the week.

Make sure you are on the WMA and not the School Board land.
you need a Permit to hunt the School board land.

Go here on Three Rivers part. Less people and more hogs. As far as Spring Bayou, I’d say it’s closer to Sherburne than the jungle.

why do through all that, the pigs at sherburne will practically greet you at the truck.

If you can't jump some pigs in the old Three Rivers, I would quit hunting.

Spring Bayou is a busy WMA with lots and lots of outlaws/assholes.

I'm from Marksville and would drive to Yancey/Three Rivers/Red River before hunting Spring Bayou.

I almost put an offer on a camp along that stretch, but I realized there is nothing there for my SO and kid. Maybe when I retire.

The fishing is good, hunting on the school board area is nice. There are four wheeler trails to the WMA. All my Camp neighbors are nice and look out for each other. We been here since 1983.
