Squirrel bait- live traps

The squirrel population has exploded in my neighborhood. I am seeing more than I have ever seen and they are all over in my front and bak yard (3 mature live oaks). I have only been able to persuade 1 to go in my live trap (last year).
Those little guys seem pretty smart when it come to avoiding the trap. What is the recommended bait I should try? I have been using peanut butter with a drop of honey.

Remove peanut butter and honey.
I make a trail of sunflower seeds leading towards the trap and then put a small pile on the back of trigger plate. Works well in my yard. Have probably caught 10 or so using this approach.
Be advised this method can also catch birds, so be careful not to do that if possible as the birds get very stressed.
A blanket over the trap after the squirrel is caught will calm him down. What you do with him then is up to you.

Corn and black oil sunflower seeds seem to work well at my house based on the amount of squirrels around my bird feeders.
When you give up on trying to catch them, get a pellet gun or a .22 and some CB caps and kill them. No one is gonna give a shite about you killing them as long as your discreet about it.

I have two Dachshunds and those lil F'ers will try to get in the trap to the PB. Maybe they will leave it alone with SF seeds and dry corn.
I have been shooting at them with a very old Crossman pump gun with only one kill shot yesterday! Thinking about adding to my rifle collection and get a new Toy! So, what inexpensive unit do you guys recommend? Would not want to spend more than 100 on a pellet gun.
I would prefer to just trap and release them; so I will try the SF seed approach. I assume you need the unsalted seeds?

Mix peanut butter and sunflower seeds. Make it with more seeds than you would if it were chocolate chips and cookie batter, if that makes sense.
I then take a plastic lid (maybe 3" diameter) and drill 1 or 2 small holes in it so I can secure it to the bottom of the trap with like a bread wrapper tie or wire.
Put mixture in and trap them with reckless abandon. I kill every squirrel I can and an a pro at it.

Raw peanuts or pecans in the shell. You will catch all you want.

I buy black oil sunflower seed from TS for
My feeders. I throw corn out for the doves. The squirrels like both.
I bought a Crosman air rifle (.177) on a whim that has turned out to be pretty good on squirrels. I have a lever action .22 (Winchester) that I use when I’m not in a mood to frick around. The pellet gun is fun when I’m sitting on my patio having a drink. The pellet gun will be better in a neighborhood.
I live in the sticks so I don’t really care if anyone hears me.

I caught close to 40 one summer using peanut butter, and relocated them to a park across a large river. Then I just gave up, it was obviously not worth the effort.

Banana chunks. They’ll smell em from 3 doors down.

They love corn and pecans. My house is by an old pecan orchard and my street is overrun with squirrels. Some neighbors have had a lot of damage done in their attics by the squirrels.
I get a bag of squirrel food at Walmart that is a mix with corn in it. I wired a little metal cup like container onto the trip pan and fill it with the food or a cracked pecan. Caught about 20 last year. Occasionally catch a bird, as well.

#110 conibears in mink trap boxes, scatter birdseed around the box the some in it. Bake the little bastards seasoned with Tony’s in a browning bag covered in sliced onions

I rigged my buddy with 4 setups a couple years ago and he caught 30 in a week, ended around 40 by the time there wasn’t a squirrel left anywhere around They were eating their way into his storage shed, garage, attic and he’d had enough of playing games

Black oil sunflower seeds works the best for me. Put a few around the outside of the trap and a small pile in the middle of the trap. I use a Squirrelinator trap. It's capable of catching multiple squirrels.
