Not recommending a semi auto, just telling him his gun in the pic he posted is a Winchester, not a Remington.

The browning SA-22 is the 1911 of rimfire. Was designed by Browning himself in 1914.
It's the original takedown 22 and the best shooting .22 made. Period.
X100. I have my dads. If there is a more enjoyable gun to carry in the woods i havent found it yet.

There are a few older .22 bolt guns that you should be able to find on Gunbroker or GunsAmerica.
I have my Dad's old Stevens 66-B, it's a tube-fed bolt action. Stevens, Savage and Springfield were all made by the Stevens Co. Some models are:
Stevens 66, 66A, 66B, 66C
Springfield 86, 86A, 86B, 86C
Savage 5, 5T
Also, the Remington Model 34 is a very nice .22 and somewhat rare, I'd love to have one.
There are a whole bunch of .22 tube fed bolt actions out there, they are not that rare, just be patient.

ETA: If you want more information about .22 rifles, then rimfirecentral.com is probably your best resource. It's a great site.
Also, look up the Marlin 81 there are several on Gunbroker right now.

Rotary mag is flush on Ruger 77. I like in stainless with xytel /boat paddle stock. I can load up a few mags in toss em in pocket before heading into the woods. Easy , accurate , indestructible and rust resistant. My choice over the marlin 60 or ?

I agree the browning semi .22 is a gem

Surprised how difficult it is to find a tube fed 22LR bolt rifle.
I have a Nylon 66, it's sweet

Hey bud, I saw this old post and I'm curious about this gun. Can you tell me exactly what the model name of your H&K tube fed bolt .22 is? I'd like to hunt one down.
Thx, Chris

Tube fed .22s lost favor with me , if you put more than about 6 hollow point bullets in the tube the tips get deformed and accuracy deteriorates. It took me awhile to figure that out.
I used to be big into squirrel hunting with .22s and I liked hollow points.
Also I found it interesting that different rifles varied so much in the brands of bullets that shot well.

I have an old stock tube feed mossberg model 377 that needs some work. Might not be of interest to you, but I’m willing to part ways with it.
