Suspend vs Talstar for Do It Yourselfer?

I noticed these two brands of insecticides come up a lot in the pest control threads I've seen lately.
I am going to be doing my own pest control at the new house in Dallas and was wondering which one works better, Suspend or Talstar? Is there a reason to choose one over the other?
I'm mainly looking to control spiders, ants, roaches, random bugs like silverfish, etc. Maybe even mosquitos if possible. Just a general all around kills most common bugs solution.

Both are in the same chemical family. Kills bugs in the same way. Talstar is more for yard/lawn pest. Suspend is more for structures.
I've used both with good success.

Do not use either on vegetables
or any edible plant

Put talstar out in the yard because of fleas coming over from outside dogs next door a few months ago. One application and fleas were gone. Come to think of it the amount of fire ants I usually have in the back yard were way less as well.

How far away should I keep this stuff from my vegetable plants? Also, how long should I wait after using to let dog and chickens back in yard?

I would have to read the label

Dogs would be immediate. If you are using liquid wait til it dries. Not sure about chickens. I would read the label really good for that.

I use talstar in the yard and spray suspend in the house. Around baseboards under sink, frig and what not. Like the pest guy does.

Just read a label. Nothing about not applying in chicken coups or vegetable gardens. So may be safe.
But read the label yourself before applying. Its the law

I think the bag said to wait and hour or so after watering in before its safe for animals. But dont know anout chickens since they peck at the dirt for bugs

Talstar granules for yard. Put in spreader and cover entire yard. Make a double pass near the foundation of your home.
Suspend is good mixed in a pump sprayer to keep spiders and roaches. Just spray on foundation and walls and crevices of your home.
Talstar= ant/flea killer and also cuts down on mosquitoes.
Suspend TC = Roach, spider, sugar ant repelant.
I would strongly suggest you go with both.

MJ2 nailed it. I like suspend because I can spray inside and out and has very little odor. Once dry it's safe for kids and pets.
I normally just use a bag of granules from. Lowes to spread in the yard a couple of times a year. Never really have any issues. But I may need to check into the Talstar granules

Thoughts on Demon WP for outside the house?
Posted on 5/10/13 at 8:57 am to QuietTiger
Isn't that one powder based?? If its the one I am thinking the place I bought my suspend from said that after it rains the demon WP loses some of its effectiveness
But the guy said it works very well

quote:Just as good control. I think Talstar may have more residual. May be more expensive also, not sure. I've only used suspend once.
need to check into the Talstar granules

Yes, comes in packs that dissolve in water. I sprayed it under my house and around the piers. Had not used it before, just looking for opinions. TIA.

I use Talstar granuales for the yard and talstar liquid for inside and outside the house, I found it works better than suspend, but after reading wickowicks post yesterday about keeping the liquids stored in a cool place, that may be the reason that my Suspend was not working as well

I can vouch for Talstar in the yard as well, it works great. I have no problem with ants and such in the area that I put it. I don't do the whole yard because it's too big, but right outside the zone becomes ant city. They do not come inside of granulated area.

The suspend will work on most bugs including spiders, etc for ~6 months. Great for under eves and around doors, porches. I really keeps the spider webs down. I know when it is time to spray again when I stop seeing dead bugs around the doors...
